ok so what i understood from what the archetect said (yes yes very badly spelt - dont ask) he said zion had fallen 4 times already, and in the game you get that bloke saying that zion lasted 72 hours last time......
the bloke in the white suit said that there had been four, "the one"s in the past and they had all failed then had to choose about 20 men and women to re-build zion......
but if he wants the machines to win... why does he get them to choose people to re-build zion and rebel against the machines!?!?!?!?:confused:
so basically neo is the fifth "one" and by saving trinity he has sealed the fate of the human race so eventually he's gonna be made, by the machines, to choose people to re-build Zion and rage war on the machines?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?

first of all your numbers are all wrong, there were 5 "ones" before him and he has to pick 27 people to restart zion.

i believe architect needs to improve the program so he plants bugs in the system (just like bill gates do but for the different purpose) in this case, neo and zion. then he reset and improve the program matrix to the next version... que sera sera.

Its only confusing because the architect speaks so damn fast.
If you read the transcript then you'll find that to increase the proportion of people who accept the matrix to 99%
they allow some humans to live outside of the matrix in zion.
The subconcious knowledge of this (by those in the matrix) gives them free will. Because they have a choice they are more likely to accept the matrix.
When the remaining 1% causes there to be so many free humans in zion that they pose a threat the machines destroy zion.
They also use the prophecy (a lie by the machines) to help control and direct the actions of those in zion.
This has happened 5 times and now Neo needs to destroy the matrix in m3 to stop zion being destroyed again.
