I have a screen cap of a character that seems to be absent from the storyline, although the director makes sure that we see him.
As Neo, Trinity and Morpheus enter Merovingian's suite the Maitre D' makes a point of looking to his left, they show the character being escorted away, and then Neo also looks at the man.

He seems to be imortant to the story.. but remember the single story is in three parts.. i'm sure we will find out..
it's to obvious to be nothing.
