Please, could someone explain to me what happens to the machine when EMP is emitted. Why did they stop? What has to be done to start (repair) them again?

I'm a programmer, not a scientist, so I'll try to explain it to the best of my ability. The key word is magnetic. As we all know, well most of us, electronics is made up of magnetically charged data. Either positively charged, or negatively charged. On or off, binary. When an piece of electronics is disturbed by an electromagnetic pulse it scrambles all of it's magnetic data making the electronics completely useless. In order for any electronic equipment to be used again after an emp, every piece of magnetic data must be rewritten. In ...our world... optical disks (CD) would be the optimal choice.

I think i agree with you on that one^ but emp are used today for electronics to be disabled.. In testing right now police have guns that shoot beams to cars. With the newer cars itll disable them, and bring them to a stop. Now emp's will disrupt the flow of some ****..I know it works cuz i have broke into a car taht had an alarm.. And all i had to do was to cut a wire and overload the system withan emp..So i know it works
it is just over loading the circuits beyond its capacity.

Check out Ocean's Eleven. They use, what they call, a "pinch" that is a nuclear bomb without the explosion. They say nuclear bombs disable all electronics within it's blast radius, but usually that's not worried about because the explosion destroys everything within the blast radius anyway. This pinch is the same thing as an EMP

Note that I believe the above explanation is wrong.

All items have discrete voltage to them. EMPs FRY circuitry, there isn't the motion of erasing memory, which I see how you think that. It's good logic.

EMPs overload circuitry by changing that items electrical potential (voltage) to a point that the circuit can't handle it and it shorts.

There is no fix to an EMPd circuit short of replacement.

Please, someone technical, verify my info or shoot it down please. Note I am not fluent in EMP physics, but I believe this info to be true.

If all of these ships use EMP's then how the hell do they stay running? Wouldn't the ship be useless? As seen in Enter The Matrix, Niobe's ships is useless after her EMP at the end, but the ship that picks up the Neb's crew is operational...

I would suggest that the Hovercraft devices have protected circuits, so that if they power down and shield the electronic components on the ship and THEN fire an EMP, the ship is fine, but anything unshielded gets zapped.

This leaves us with 4 issues....


1. Why don't the machines develop more highly shielded Sentinels - to beat the EMP weapon?

2. Why don't they have the 'plug in seats' in a shielded area of the hovercraft too. So that they can keep a Matrix link, and zap Sentinels outside with an EMP. The link to the Matrix is some kind of radio link, the EMP could be focused & filtered so that it doesn't affect the transmission.

3. Why not have EMP 'stations' at points down the tunnels and at the first sign of a Sentinel they give off a blast.

4. Why not develop a MASSIVE EMP bomb, and explode this in the middle of the 250,000 odd Sentinels swarming at the surface?

There is a range of possible attack scenarios. Low-level electromagnetic pulses would temporarily jam electronics systems, more intense pulses would corrupt important computer data and very powerful bursts would completely fry electric and electronic equipment.

So what i gather is that everything is shielded as best it can, so what happens is a 'jam' effect.
