Alright, bear with me, I've only just seen Reloaded, and I'm still somewhat confused.
Why do the machines allow Xion to exist? If this version of the Matrix is the best thus far, except that 1% of the humans reject it, then why does the Matrix allow those 1% to live in Xion? They've destroyed Xion many times, but they let the humans rebuild, why?
Initially I was under the assumption that we didn't know how many "ones" came before Neo, but everyone on these boards seems to come to the consensus that Neo is the sixth "one". I guess this comes from the quote about this being the "sixth version of the matrix". However, I was under the assumption that the first version was the perfect matrix that failed miserably, and subsequent matrices were improvements (or upgrades if you prefer) until they reached the current Matrix, version 6. It is in this version 6 that 99% of the human comply with the Matrix, but 1% reject it. So from that, I would assume that it is impossible to say how many "ones" came before Neo (unless the architect said something about it, which I may have forgot about).
Also, is the program "The Oracle" the reason that version 6 works? Because she seeks out "the one" and sets him on this path to essentially "reboot" Xion? But that leads back to the question of why the machines let Xion exist in the first place?
Ugh, I love these movies, but I feel so confused. I definately need to see Reloaded again.
