What would it be like?

For all of the people still around here (not many :()

I've been seeing all these discussions on whether or not we will invent AI someday. I'm more interested with what it will be like.

What do you think AI will be like? Will it be cool, calculating intelligence? Will it have emotions, feelings? Will it have 'values'? Would it care about it's own survival? How would it experience things? Would it be just like us? Or would it be totally different?

I've been thinking about this for a while, but I believe that any kind of AI we develop, will be radically different from 'our' intelligence (if we actually are :p), unless it is basically a direct copy of the Human brain, and even then, what about external sensors and such?

I'd like opinions on this please :)

I think that really depends on us, and I can also see many different types.
To clarify- look at all the movies that have AI in them:
-Terminator
-AI
-Star Trek
-Matrix (obviously)

It's been said that our inventions are only held back by our imaginations, so I can easily see any of these forms coming into existence.

However, it is all contingent upon us not killing off mankind before we can reach this type of technology. (try reading the Bible Code. Not sure if I am a believer- but it is frightening).

I think we've already invented a rudimentary type of AI. I was playing Roller Coaster Tycoon, and I stopped to think about all the guest. They have simulated preferences, emotions, and thoughts. They are programmed to do what will help them or make them happier. I've heard that Sims is similar, but even more complicated. I think that all of the "simulations" of people that are run every day are already a type of AI. I think a lot of things.

I think that it will start out as a good thing. And then some one who takes movies to serious will make a virous and corrupt the AI and they will turn against us. Or they will have glitches. Like all computers or computer programs. They will be good until they have a glitch and something goes wrong.

When AI is invented, it would go to the military or into a major corperation. First if AI goes to the military it will probally be in comand of Statrgic and Balistic Missle Defence. I can't see AI robots on a battle feild cause it would be way to expensive. I can see a major coperation (like a government one) to create AI for security of a research faccility and to control the major functions of the faccility like in the movie *Resident Evil*. Ether way it would be designed with no emotions to prevent it from caring for the enemy.

if AI was used in wars, it would act with maximum efficiency, killing as many people and destroying as much stuff as possible - ie, nukes. in other words, when AI is used for wars, the enemy will quickly be obliterated and the world will take its final step in its evolution of being completely ****ed up
