Avatar post limits? Come on...

Why the heck do I have to make 50 posts to have my own custom avatar? I don't care for the forum originals, but come on - I'd like to express myself without waiting days to have enough posts. Especially when I'm not a kind of person that makes a lot of posts.

The Matrix is about CHOICE.

You can choose the door to the left, which gives you a few default avatars and you can chose those with no effort.

Or you can choose the door to the right, which rewards you for actively being a part of the community by allowing you to have a custom avatar.

I told the admin it should be a higher threshhold, but I am a mean guy. :)

I agree with you Wildcard I think that you need to prove yourself in order to have what you want-you cant have the cake and eat it.

Well, as this will get me a one post, I'll reply. I've been on the forums for the last hour and a half and have barely made over 10 posts. Yay. Anyway, this must be the only forum out of a million forums worldwide that use an avatar limitation like this. Great. Yeah, yeah - "Well why won't you go to some other forum then?". I like the level of discussion here that's why - but that still doesn't make me like it. When I have the goddamn 50 posts I guess I'll have to be real glad to get my own avatar.

lol, you are funny. Why are you so motivated to have your own avatar? It's not that big of a deal. The conversation is busy enough around here where it's pretty fun and easy to get involved in a few threads and make plenty of posts.

Realistically though, I think you are only going to be dissatisfied with our site, if you are this hung up on the avatar post thing. Besides, you said you aren't the type of person to make a lot of posts so what's the big deal?

Note that some sites don't do this, some do. One site I frequent give you site$ that you can collect and then use to buy the priviledge to get an avatar or highlight your username or change your title or a few other things.

Maybe you'd be happier at a forum that is much less work.

As for the post requirement for custom avatars, I don't see the big deal in trying to get a certain amount....By the 2nd day I was here, I already had 50+ posts....I just don't see the logic in why it's such a problem

At 50 posts you can get a costumed avatar. But untill than, is it possible to get any avatar? Or is there nothing?

Wow, another belgian on the board, welcome and enjoy yourself. As for your question, with each couple of posts you can select from a wider range of predefined avatars in your user control panel (user CP at the top of the page). Once you hit 50 posts you can use any avatar you like.

I didnt think it was that hard to reach 50 posts, even though i have to find someone nice enough to make me an avatar.

After the influx of idiots at the moment who are spamming to reach their 50 post count, I suggest custom titles of 'Idiot' or 'Spammer' for the rest of their time here. They obviously don't learn (even when they are kicked out and come back in), they are still up to their old tricks. Kudos Luc for giving them those said titles, and for dropping their posts counts to zero.

If it were up to me ( who has been customising these pples avs to find they are spamming and thus wasting my time in the proccess) I would make the post count before a custom avatar 200, but that wouldn't be fair on the brilliant new posters we have coming in and contributing to the site with their valid comments.

Just wanted to say that I also think this limit is ridiculous..
I surfed this website kinda active for like a month while making 10 posts or something like that.. I am just not that kind of type to make posts that nobody is waiting for.. something lots of the people on this board do... Things are being said for like 100000000 times.. for instance that MIAM thing.. about that subject there have been like a million posts and in every post was the same story...

If there must be a limit... use a limit like being member of the board for at least a month or something like that..

and please please make a rule that avatars must be matrix or yourself related..... not an avatar with shots from the most irritating movie ever created (sorry iamatwin :)) haha no offence at all the avatar just irritates me!

and one last thing, I have more than 50 posts (not all as intelligent as they should be, but I wanted also a homemade avatar:)) but now I am not able to upload a picture?? tried for like 1000 times .. but hey I am also happy with the merovingian!

Theres nothing wrong with iamatwin's avatar. You should be able to have any avatar matrix related or not.

I agree with JetFire...People may like the Matrix...but maybe they like other movies too...It only seems fair to those who have limited options...

hey i just check at my USER CP. and check options for avatars (and then more info about avatars) and i saw at the bottom that you now need only 5 post to have a custom avatar ??? is that a error ? or is it just changed.

You are the first to notice that:

You now only need just 5 posts before you can get a custom avatar. Yes, for an unlimited time only MatrixMania.com is giving *you* the chance to have your own personal custom avatar! ;)

Be warned though, the old rules still apply! So those 5 posts better be worth something (spam will be deleted).

Well, you can still set the 260 as a goal, the custom title is pretty cool... I thought the 50-limit was pretty decent though, there will be a lot more work for jetfire, smith_fan and Bamba-man now.

Yea, thats the only problem, once i get more clips and try to get better, i might try to make avatars, but iam stuggling with my clips and other stuff i need to straiten out....

I think 50 is too lenient. You want a custom avatar? POST 300 TIMES.

First of all, members with a post count of 10 want to have animated super-perfect avatars, which are nearly impossible to make and we can't make that many avatars. I think Jetfire, Matrix_Fan_0.2 and NeoXavier think so too. Also, these people then post their request 10.000 times in the Avatar request thread (which I would call "spam"....)

There are way to many requests, and less avatar makers....

At last somebody say it, the avatar thread is now the oficcial ''spam center'', and this new users are asking super mega avatars, inclusive they request more than one avatar at time.

What i do is read the request and pass to the other post, they should put the feets on the ground...

I've not actually said anything before.. But I think people should be on the site for about a month or so, to show that they will stay with the site before getting an custom avatar... It sounds like a good idea.. This way, spamming doesn't help because they still won't get a custom avatar until they've stayed for a month..

I'd rather have people join and stay on the site then people that just want to register for a custom avatar...

I agree with Jetfire. Not only wouldit insure longevity from members, it would drastically cut spamming. We do need more Avatarmakers though, Jetfire's probably done half of the ones on the site.

thats a good idea. you could give the person who has reached 50 posts a test of some sort e.g. a quiz on the matrix.

I think its a great idea they finally changed that! Spamming should definately cut down...

you shouldn't post junk just to build up the number. All of us had to earn our custom avatar ability. Things aren't just going to be handed to you. My avatar is custom (though not real good) and i had to wait.
