after having passed the game i realized that my original
matrix within a matrix theory is probably not correct. someone
(and it wasn't you) actually had a pretty solid explanation as to
why neo was able to stop the sentinels. the other ship, the one
that was sent out to "scout" for neo's ship, used its EMP at
the right time, at the same time neo thought he was stopping
them by hand.

you have provided some pretty solid evidence to support
your theory, just don't call everyone who disagrees with
you an idiot.

im not an authority on this subject,
but the blast from the EMP on the Nebuchadnezzar in m1 is far different from the invisible blast that disables the sentinals at the end of m2.

Sorry TIM, I don't agree completely with that "authrotative source" :rolleyes: you provided the link to. Specifically, the idea that Neo is, at least in part, a program is certainly based on facts from the film.

Although the person who wrote the Notes in the link you provided had a different opinion than mine, I think mine stands up better to scrutiny.

More specifically, Neo has to be a result of Matrix programming. This was explicitly stated by The Architect. It isn't that Neo just happened to have the right genes, and the right life experiences, to ultimately become the one. No... his persona is a result of direct tampering with his mind by the Matrix code. The Matrix code contains a flaw, and that flaw causes The One to be created. It is fairly clear. Neo doesn't carry the flaw, he is the flaw.

"Designed... facilitating the function of the One." The Matrix programming selects a human connected to the Matrix to become the One. His personality develops not as a result of genes and life experiences, but as a result of Matrix programming and life experiences (and, apparently, the Matrix programming is also influenced by the life experiences of the previous Neo's, making each one a sort of culmination of programming and experiences of all that came before).

I don't think this is ambiguous at all. The Architect is very clear in describing how Neo came to be what he is, and what the role of the Matrix was in producing him. How does Neo have influence over the Sentinels in the real world? Because, in part at least, he is a result of, and part of, the Matrix code. Perhaps the Sentinels monitor everything associated with the Matrix, whether directly interfaced to it (such as the humans plugged into it and the various programs - oracle, architect, agents, twins, etc. - that are running in it) or indirectly (like the Sentinels, and apparently both Neo and now a part of Agent Smith). Because they detect Neo as being a part of the machine world, he has some (limited) influence over them.

Just semantics really. I think it's appropriate to think of Neo as either being the flaw or being a result of the flaw, but I don't think he simply carries the flaw. That insinuates that he is otherwise a normal human who simply has the distinction of carrying some flaw by chance. It isn't by chance that Neo is the One, it is a direct result of modification by the Matrix.

well it took someone to actually think to come up with the onion theory. the other theory was already the general view of matrix fans. so that would not necessarily make them smarter.

He created Neo so he could perfect the system

The Architect doesn't directly control all programs running within the Matrix. He doesn't control the Oracle, he doesn't control Agent Smith, he doesn't control the twins, etc. The anomaly is a piece of code he can't control. Indeed, the anomaly is the result of introducing free choice into the Matrix programming. If he could figure out a way to eliminate the anomaly without disrupting how well the Matrix works, he would. He's trying, but hasn't been successful.

Thus, the Architect didn't directly create Neo. In fact, apparently the Architect didn't even directly create the current version of the Matrix. That the Matrix code will inevitably alter and create The One as a recurring anomaly is something not under the direct control of the Architect.

Now, I don't know if Neo finds the flawed code in the Matrix, or the flawed code discovers him. I tend to think it is the latter if strictly following the dialogue in the film, but it is possible that the brothers really intended it to be the first... that Neo discovers the flawed code and thus becomes the one. Perhaps it is inevitable that some human will find that code, and gain the abilities of the One, instead of it being inevitable that the flawed code will modify a human, thus creating the One.

However, explanations for why the different Neo's were all apparently very similar are better explained in viewing the code as having found Neo.

AI can't control a virus. And agent Smith is that virus. However the Oracle I am not so sure about. I believe the AI just gives her a long leash. The rogue programnes like the bodygaurds (which I origionally called firewalls) need to be on the run, just like the programne they protect. I think AI needs a good de-frag and virus update:D

Anyways, it's not a dumb theory, the only dumb theory is that an emp his the sentinels. It's very obvious that it was not an emp as the special effects are so different.

Reeves himself has said that the WBs don't play like that, they don't just 'hoodwink' us into thinking one thing, and then have it be something completely different.

Neo held out his hand and stopped the sentinels, at least acknowledge that much if you want to continue the discussion. Denying even that most assured fact just ruins all chance for meaningful discourse on the matter.

Now. Having said that, Reeves also implied in the interview that there would be no matrix within a matrix, and the oracle said things that made it sound like she knew where he was when he was in the coma.

And finally, the idea that neo is part machine is absolutely without a doubt crazy. He has been hit with an emp before, remember? How does his physical body turn into a machine from M1 to M2? It just isn't going to happen, no way, no how.

So what's left? Neo is still connected to the matrix, even when he jacks out. This somehow allows him to shut down the sentinels.

Some say that neo is a program. Who cares? That doesnt' really tell us how he does anything, since according to these movies there is a very fine line between human and program.

Hey guys! I'm new here, but not new to the matrix... I've seen The Matrix 22 times!(no kidding).I live in Romania, and the week before critics gathered to tv interviews to say tha "Matrix Reloaded" is not a real movie, just a computer generated cartoon ith no conflic, intrigue or story whatsoever. They suck! I mean, how can a 60 years old guy understand such a complex movie... Anyway, i hope the critics in your countries had more brains. Keep talking. I'l be back!
