Just a few thoughts here....
Society is really one giant matrix... after all how many of lifes essentials ony exist within the human mind?
Ill try to explain what im on about...
This morning, I got up, cycled to the train station and handed over my credit card to buy a ticket. From the credit card a sum of two pounds and forty pence was deducted. Yet this was a transaction that did not happen beyond a computer system, i can not see, hear or take hold of the ones and zeros that were being transfered from one account to another!
And even if i chose to pay by cash..... how would that be any different? Like Douglas Adams says in THE SALMON OF DOUBT....You cant stir fry money, you cant take shelter under it when the rain starts to pour! ... the point is that money is a purely imaginary concept! Outside of the human, cash is just paper and nothing else!
Anyway, I got on the train and started reading a book.
It might be argued that reading has a practical purpose of improving ones mind, but the reason I opened a book this morning was because, it was a chance for my brain to escape from the cold wet grey morning in the real world.
I get to to work...
At work. I put out products on a super market shelf. All the products on the shelves are packaged in specially designed wrappers, tins and boxes... Every so often, food companies will update their merchandise designs, so as to keep their products image up to date.
Yet this changing of the packaging seldom affects the quality of the product inside... this is about stimulating the human brain into making the essential purchase for reasons that are pure fantasy!!
After work, i went home and watched a foot ball match.
Watching football serves no real practical purpose. Playing may keep the body fit, but what does watching it do?
It gives entertainment and produces adrenaline, we empathise with the players and imagine what it would be like to be them.
But even if we were them? How would a person really benefit from taking a great catch or making that essential touchdown? In truth, i believe all sport to be a simulation of conflict which feeds our tribal instincts ... a fantasy war in a fantasy world.
Once again transport the brain away from real life.
After the football finished, i had dinner then offered prayers to my god.
Ive never seen my god and never seen conclusive proof of his existance, furthermore, how can i say - without having researched all of the worlds 1000's of other religions - that my god is the 'real god'.
Am i just worshiping this god, because the harsh real world doesnt seem so bad, if i believe theres a nice fantasy world waiting for me somewhere?
Or am i just scared that -just in case he does exist- this god will be displeased if i stop worshiping him.
