I went Athiest when i saw The Matrix, well it really push me into, because I was considering some time earlier, for example wen I sow the movie Devil's Advocate when Paccino said to (concidentially it was Keanu Reves) "consider the souce" when Reves said to him "in the Bible you loose".
Then wen I first see The Matrix I was considering that all of our religious believes given to us by our parents or some one else really was a program to get us all under control of some authority (religious or goberment had almost the same power if not more in ancient times), and maybe you can reach a conclusion like this when you see the movie The end of Times or other with the intervention of some malignan person (that does not really exists if you are Athiest)
I consider the Bible to be nothing more than a GUIDE on
our path through life.
It provides us with some basic rules and instructions which
should be followed in order secure a successful life.
I don't think it brainwashes people into living a certain
lifestyle, and those who follow it WORD BY WORD are
truly not very intelligent for it was not meant to be
taken literally (on most levels).
The stories from the Bible can be understood on MANY
different levels but they all present the same concept:
- Be a good person, and you will be rewarded in one
way or another.
And what's so bad about being a good person and living an
honest life? Would we prefer havoc, destruction and
hate? I sure think not.
I'm not a very religious person. I believe in God and I have
read the Bible. I might read it again sometime in the future.
To me the Bible is a guide book. Kind of like a map or a history
book. The only difference is that the Bible uses a lot of figurative
language to explain every day situations. It helps to read the
Bible before you pass judgment on it. Watching a Hollywood flick
and changing your way of life isn't the smartest thing to do.
Yes, I went through a phase years ago wondering if maybe religious texts were just created to keep people in check. I gave up that thought with the new realization that even if there is no God, living a somewhat good natured life is overall more satisfying than not.
And of course it keeps the bases covered for the proability that there is a God. :)

Christianity as it is today was of course designed to keep people in check. During the age of the Roman Empire, before it became holy, various styles of Christianity existed. Primarily those who preferred the "Greek Style" of peter, and then there's the Gnostic style, and the Essene or Qumran style (the type of Jew that Jeshua ben Joseph aka Jesus) was.
Jesus belonged the the Essenes, which were like superjews. They exist today mainly in southern iraq (of all places).
Peter, whom the church hails its power from, was essentially a fraud who claimed to be a pharesie (I can't spell), but was not. He preferred a more messianic view of Christ than what historians will say existed then.
So when emporer constantine needed money and control of the populace (even his mother was a christian) he chose the style (catholocism) which gave most power to the state (holy roman empire).
It gets really wierd when you start getting into the Freemasonry, Templar, Egyptianmystery, Gnosticism, Essene, stuff.

I hear the Freemasons make human sacrafices once in a while.
Yeah, that's the illuminati . ;)

I think this person gave you an excellent and real opinion to your post, it's incredible that you let a movie rule your life in that way. I think people like you are just looking for a way to find something (a movie, a book, etc) that will help you justify your "bad" actions and "confirm" that your believings are the correct ones, but you know what? is so stupid to deviate your values, respect for others, and your whole life after watching a movie, but obviously you have the right to choose what and how your life will be. It's in your hands, it's your choice, hope you find the right one FOR YOU!

Life is not that complicated, it's simple!! "It provides us with some basic rules and instructions which should be followed in order secure a successful life". Got that??
Think about this: Have your life changed for the best after you decided to be atheist? or has it been worst and worst??? is that what you really want???? open your eyes!! and your heart again to the right path in life.
Good luck and God bless
What is real? And what is not? Whisper to me... And you shall be taught.
Ones future behold.
Unwravled before him.
His future untold.
Hanging on one rim.
"The One" shall return.
Or is he already here?
Surrounding us with confusion.
Cooking us seer.
What if i am the one?
Yet you dont know it.
What if the matrix was real?
Yet it just was not writ?
As we let the story unfold.
We shall sit and watch.
As what was untold.
Now becomes taught.
I just can't believe how some of you atheists can go throughout your lives believing that there isn't a God. You are all crazy.
What is something God gives, you (atheists) lack and is the main theme of the Matrix and its sequels?
Hope.
If you dont believe in God, then you don't believe in an afterlife. If there is no afterlife, what do you have to look forward to?
I'm not sure if it's our right to call Atheists crazy. We live in a
society (at least the majority of us) where people are free
to believe whatever they want.
We cannot pass judgement on people just because they
don't believe in God. Some of my best friends whos parents
happen to be Jewish, and quite religious, don't believe in
God. They're still very good people and they live very
modest and sinless lives.
I don't believe that the Bible itself is inherently bad. BUT.. organized religion is just huge attempt to control the populace.
I don't believe in any one religion, I just go by what I think is probably correct. I am not completely atheist, because I have seen some pretty far out stuff in my fifteen years of life. (Dreams/ visions, sight, messages, etc.) but I believe that the things i have seen have next to nothing to do with god (at least not in the christian sense)
I'm sure that if there is some kind of god out there, he wouldnt want us to buy all the bullcrap we are fed by organized religion.
ESPECIALLY christianity/catholicism. Some, if not most of the big wigs in there are truly evil.
All I say is, skim through the bible, and only live by the main things you remember about it. all the little details are meaningless. Little sins are nothing. I believe you could never go to mass in your entire life and still go to heaven, if there is such a place.
Yes, the bible is a guideline. But believing in god will make little to no effect on whether or not you have a happy life. I guarantee this!
Be Aware. Never Follow Blindly. Do good deeds. Give Respect to those who truly deserve it.
And , most importantly, Find YOUR OWN truth. Dont believe in something as truly important as the afterlife or the existence of a god, by tradition or by popular vote. If you go by what you found out to be true throughout your life, you wont need religion, you will find out that it's useless and trendy.
But good luck to everyone. The most important thing is happiness.
:P
I didn't become atheist when I saw the Matrix but I don't think that a movie really shouldn't influence you that much to change how you think about religion, I used to be hard core christian, but now I don't really care about anything anymore, just my girlfriend and alcohol lol.!!!
my frend doesn´t belive in God.
she thinks, that it is so mutch bad in the world, and God does nothing.

Christianity as it is today was of course designed to keep people in check. .
Most religons have proven to be excellent sources of keeping people in check. Generally monotheism and especially Christianity have taken this ancient art form to new levels of cunning and power. During the middle ages alone Christianity single-handedly stifled scientific understanding and through the Crusades destroyed more free thought and knowledge than many less effective religons combined. I just recently read "The History of PI" and it summed this up quite well. I had almost forgotten how many thinkers were put to the torch and libraries burned to the ground in the name of the God of the bible. Nothing promotes dogma as well as the Christian bible and the modern day "liberal" interpretations are signs that this powerful ancient enemy is starting to fall. Liberal Christian faith is in the same school of oxymorons as proven faith or justified faith:D
However you do have to give the religion kudos, even though it was responsible in some ways with its own undoing. The printing presses first created to espouse the bible helped create the body of scientific understanding over time that eventually toppled it. Some evil doer needs to take the lessons learned in the now anachonistic elements of the bible (homosexuality = evil, women subservient to men, etc.) and synthesize a more politically correct religion (the Esperanto of religions) before the clock runs out. Monotheism is giving way to agnostics leaning towards atheism in this enlightened age of logic, science and empirical proof. The clock is ticking on monotheism just as it did on polytheism way back when.
Some day we will all be able to grow up and stop sucking our thumbs, cursing the darkness - the universe has given us intelligence to understand its patterns, let us someday shed the shackles of mysticism and mythology stand up on our own two legs and stop passing the buck.
somethig 600 years then, people were scared of god.
Nowtimes, nobody is scared of god.
hm..... u haf a very interesting philosphy....
if you are considering giving up on traditional religion and religous beliefs, (im not religous at all, i also have nothing against religion) but if you havent already, check out Fight Club, it is a revolutionary piece of art, religion is a main theme, peace:cool:
Yeah, i want to start a fight club, get out all my agression that's been pent up and bottled by society every friday of every week. that would be so much fun.
It's like going to anger management sessions, with blood.
lol at WRHaxen, I used to be in one and we had like 30 people in it, then one day someone came home with a bloody nose and his mom called the cops
so now we don't have it anymore which really sucks cause I got to whoop up on people lol
You know what would be cool? If I was Shinto. Hehe...don't mind me...(I'm atheist,if you would like to know)
The bible should not be taken word for word, and for those who wish to believe in God AND the scientific proof to the contrary, think about evolution and how we say that dinosaurs were here 10million years ago blah blah blah, also think about how god made the earth. The first day for example, the bible says it was a day. A 24 hr day? A 30 Hr day? A week? A year? 100 years? TEN MILLION YEARS?? Think about it, god didn't make the sun til the 4th day, he had no idea how to keep time, so don't just choose one, I am into physics and extreme theology classes, thinking is my specialty. All I can do is tell you, no, I can just ask you to keep your mind open, if you wanna be new age and not cliche always be ready to accept new possibilities. Especially while watching The Matrix, only 20 hrs more!

The only issue with liberal interpretation of the bible is that it has caused the Christian religion itself to be far less cohesive. Some would go as far to say that Christ was only a prophet and the tales were not to be taken literally. Nothing morally wrong with taking it liberally, but it makes the bible itself a ridiculously loose metaphor.
View Full Version : I went Athiest when i saw The Matrix
