you know, mouse did have a good point about the machines trying to figure out what to make everything taste like. he basically said, what if the machines got all the tastes of the foods mixed up? well in response to mouse's remark:
The Matrix was designed by the machines to imitate early 20th century civilization to keep the humans fooled. i don't doubt that the machines could have messed up in a few places, but the last time i checked computers were pretty exact about most things.
Mouse was so cool. Sad that he had to die. Anyways.. Machine's can't taste anything how would they know what edible objects taste like. What if they got every food wrong and no one ate. Oh yeah.. if you eat something in The Matrix where does the food go. I mean is your stomach bieng pumped by liquified nutrients supplied by the machines. Maybe if you eat something in the Matrix your brain is telling you that you have something in your mouth that tastes good. That your brain is telling you that your stomach is full although it isn't. Sypher was right about that damn steak.
This was actually discussed a few days ago.
I think you should read some of the posts on
the subject, I think there is some interesting
stuff in there:

Thanks Luc. I get it now.. heheh. But what are the machines doing, are they pumping your body with food or something, while you sit in the pod. --- I just read your post about the element combination thing. Good point Luc.
morpheus says: i watched them liquify the dead to feed the living, so technically none of the food you eat in the matrix actually goes anywhere. about the machines not being able to taste: the machines did a great deal of studying about how humans send and recieve the electrical signals that sense everything, so they had a good idea of how the HUMANS tasted everything. so basically, man did all the tasting for the machines to they could know what everything tasted like to us.
We're fed by the dead bodies of our own kind???
SICK!!!
