Bush equated with Hitler

Is President Bush equated with Adolf Hitler in the science-fiction flick "The Matrix Reloaded"?

The question is being asked in connection with a scene in the new movie where images of Bush and the German dictator are displayed during a discussion of evil in the world.

Adolf Hitler

"If they're saying our president is in the same league as Adolf Hitler, then I don't want to see this movie," says Mark Szorady of Rome, Ohio.

The 44-year-old cartoonist tells WorldNetDaily he has no idea if that's the intent of the filmmaker, but his curiosity has been piqued by reviews and online discussions of the blockbuster.

"The Matrix Reloaded" continues the story of mankind's struggle against machines which use artificial intelligence to enslave the human race in a dream world.

TV screens behind Keanu Reeves in 'The Matrix Reloaded' (Warner Bros.)

During the scene in question, actor Keanu Reeves – who portrays the hero "Neo" – is standing in front of a large bank of video screens as he discusses mankind's history with the designer of the computer-simulated world which is called "the Matrix."

Images of wickedness begin to rapidly flash on the monitors, including photos of nuclear warfare and notorious killers.

"When the architect of the Matrix describes the folly of man," Scott Bowles of USA Today says, "look at the screens behind Neo, which show images of a historical monster and a contemporary president."

The historical monster to whom he refers is Hitler, and the president is George W. Bush, as well as his father for a brief moment.

President Bush

"Discussion of evil in the world and flashing the picture of our president. Why?" asks Szorady. "Are they saying he's evil? ... I'd like to see this thing frame-by-frame."

The scene is also sparking chatter on the Internet about possible intended messages.

"If the Matrix films, the most philosophically challenging movies to be produced in a generation, reveal any obvious signs of the politics of its makers, then this subliminal equation (Hitler=Bush?) is it," writes the Today newspaper of the Philippines in an editorial about "Reloaded."

Messageboard threads on Yahoo and Free Republic.com include a host of reactions which span the political spectrum:

"[Bush is] appropriately just to the right of Hitler."

"This flick is off my list! I'm not even interested anymore!

"Although it was not up long, it was safe to say that over half the audience recognized the dig at the president as well as the context that it was in – that President Bush was a negative part of human history."

"I saw it. The TV monitors show Nazis, Hitler, and an atomic explosion, and somewhere in the midst of all that the face of George W. Bush can be seen for a second or so. Why would such a peace-loving president so emotionally engaged with the struggle of the common man ever be included alongside such dark images? What could the filmmakers have been thinking? Is it too late to start a boycott of this film? ... Maybe if enough pressure can be exerted, they can have the offensive image removed before they press the DVD!"
Contributors to Free Republic have even posted the images of Hitler and the Bushes from the movie in at least one discussion thread.

A spokesperson for the Warner Bros. studio told WorldNetDaily the company was reviewing the sequence in question to be "accurate" for any comment regarding the alleged Bush-Hitler connection.

Placing presidents in works of pop culture is certainly nothing new for the entertainment industry, as productions have featured both footage of elected leaders and actors portraying real-life officials.

Some have obvious comedic value, like in "The Pink Panther Strikes Again," where then-President Gerald Ford was lampooned as a stumbling buffoon more concerned with a college-football score than saving the world from a doomsday scenario.

President George H.W. Bush was cast in a less than flattering light during the Irish rock band U2's 1990 "Zoo TV" tour, as fans viewed a host of political images on giant video screens culminating with a caption telling the audience, "It's your world, you can change it."

Meantime, "The Matrix Reloaded" is already among the biggest financial smashes in movie history, grossing $134.3 million during its first four days, nearly matching the entire amount the first "Matrix" collected in its first five weeks.

It's expected to become the most successful R-rated film ever released, needing at least $234.8 million to match the current No. 1, "Beverly Hills Cop."

"I think it will easily do over $300 million," box-office analyst Robert Bucksbaum of ReelSource Inc. told the Los Angeles Daily News.

I wouldnt pay attention to this Cartoonists childish comments....
First Our President just sent our marines and armed forces into Iraq to defend freedom and rid the Iraqi People of a horrible dictator. How anyone could possible compare our Presidency to Hitler is upsurd and silly Btw just dont read his rubbish if he doesnt wish to see the matrix thats his choice, Hilter exterminated 9 million people, 6 million jews and 3 million non jews. Bush just Liberated and entire country if there is a comparison its in the contrast of the Two.. IMHO
The One V6.0

there are many ways I could equate Bush and Hitler...

but that's not for this forum...
lobby_shootout

anyone who compares bush to hitler is an idiot...hitler was a butcher intent on destroying an entire race of people, while bush is a compassionate man who just removed this generation's most terrifying dictator from power, you tell me how those two men are the same.
The One V6.0

It's going a bit far to compare the Bush of 2003 to the Hitler of 1933. Bush simply is not the orator that Hitler was. But comparisons of the Bush Administration's fear mongering tactics to those practiced so successfully and with such terrible results by HItler and Goebbels on the German people and their Weimar Republic are not at all out of line.

I hope a mod closes this thread. Nothing good will come of this discussion.
Terikan

yes, bush was used as an example of our horrible history in the conversation with the architect.

I almost cheered.

I'm proud to be an american. Just not proud to have bush as a president.
Neo6th

I dont think we should be talking about this concept in this forum.
EtaPhase

I mentioned this topic to my wife, and she noticed it in the movie too. Perhaps the Wachowski Bros. share the same opinion of Bush as the rest of the Hollywood left.

It's their movie. If they want to d!ck it up with policical statements that's up to them. As for me, I find it extremely hard to see any movie that doesn't have actors, techs, directors or producers with an opposing political view than I do. It doesn't stop me from going to the theater though. Why? Because they're the gladiators in the pit performing for ME. I am their client, and they serve me. That's all they are.

Their opinion means very little, especially when it comes to politics. Last time I checked, Political Philosophy was not a mandatory course in performing arts schools.

Everyone has a right to their opinion, and everyone's opinion is equally important in a democracy. Theirs is no less important than yours, no more important either.

And keep telling yourself that they serve you while you pay them 9 bucks four or five times :p

Servants don't make 100 million dollars.

Servants don't make 100 million dollars. You don't own a business do you? hehe... As a business owner, I serve my clients and get paid for doing so, thus I'm a servant. Those in the movie industry provide a service, thus are servants, and they get paid for it and rightly so.

People have a right to their own opinions, and I would never say they didn't. But - they don't have a right to be heard. Thus, their opinion means very little :)
Terikan

well if you like their movies, then you should respect their opinions more. just like if you have a friend that you think is smart. when they say something, you take it more seriously.
Naroni

you aren't paying attention, kids. and apparently the dumbass who wrote that article wasn't, either.

It's not George W. Bush. It's the first one. And they aren't equating hitler with bush. Let me run down the scene for you.

Architect is talking about why the previous Matrices failed. (Specifically, the 1st matrix.)

"The first Matrix i designed was quite naturally perfect, it was a work of art, flawless, sublime. A triumph equalled only by its monumental failure. The inevitability of its doom is apparent to me now as a consequence of the imperfection in every human being. Thus, i redesigned it, based on your history, to more accurately reflect the varying grotesqueries of your nature. However, I was again frustrated by failure."

First, it shows Hitler to the right of Neo, when the Architect says "based on your history" then a bunch of scrambled pictures that are indistinct. (Trust me, ive watched the movie in DivX form. Its really indistinct.) then it shows what appears to be George Bush (Father of W.) and could quite possibly not be him, walking.

i really don't think this was a political message, and i hope it isnt. Why ruin a great series of films with crappy opinions about stuff that has no effect on your film?

OUR PRESIDENT SELECT IS NOT THE SAME AS HITLER!!!!!

Although he does have a conservative white supremacy imperialistic agenda.

Before 911 did we have war plans drawn up to invade Afghanistan to secure development for OIL PIPELINES?

Why where the energy meetings between the Talaban and **** Chaney kept a secret from the American Public?

Are you someone who believes the present administration did not have any prior knowledge of 911?

Have we found any weapons of mass destruction, or, was it always a lie?

Why is the FBI investigating Anthrax from OUR OWN LABS but used the deaths and contaminations of Anthrax in united states as a case to invade IRAQ before the UN?

Why is all descent from imperialistic policy threatened with not being American?

Why is the president using 911 as a tool to take our constitutional rights away, how many bills have been passed that limits our privacy in the name of terrorism?

Why do we have Nuclear weapons and why do we threaten other countries with war for researching them?

WHY IS EVERYONE AFRAID OF THE TRUTH........WHY DOES EVERYONE SETTLE FOR WHAT CNN SAYS.......DOES ANYONE KNOW HISTORY......IF YOU STUDIED HITLER, YOU CAN SEE THAT BUSH IS USING THE SAME TOOLS AND POLICIES THAT HITLER USED TO BEGIN HIS QUEST.... PROPAGANDA IS TODAY'S MATRIX

EXACTLY my opinion and the facts. The things you are posting V6.0 are rediculous and the people who wrote them should be shot.

Terikan you are not obligated to respect their opinions at all. You can't equate movie producers as politically wise because they made a great movie. There's a big difference in enjoying one's product and agreeing with one's opinion.

In the business world, I hear all sorts of opinions from my clients. I just let them rant, because my relationship with them is nothing more than business. However, if I as the provider of a service or product start to voice my political views to my clients, I stand to lose a great deal of business from them, even though they may enjoy my product.

It should be not be treated any different simply because a provider of services happens to be peddling a movie. I am their client, and in the real world, if they called me up and started spewing out their political bilge over the phone, I'd be calling their competitors after hanging up.

We should not hand these guys a pass on their opinions. We should listen to them, sure, but we should never say they're right simply because they produced a good product.

Edit: you should ultimately think for yourself.
ae2198

i dont understand people's thinking anymore. just bc you dont believe in your president, doesnt make you a bad person. some people have liberal ideas that dont coinsides with all the "liars" , oh yea, i mean cnn has to say. half of the us didnt even vote for bush! and what a coincidence there was a problem with the voting in florida. funny that his brother is gov. of florida. funny that bush is very reluctant to release info about 9/11. who started this crap that when you dont believe everything your told from your president that it makes you unamerican. the bush ad. have an agenda that eventually will be uncovered. it's ridiculous that people would rather vote for the winner of american idol than vote for their country's president. if the citizens of this country dont start actively participate in their government , they can start kissing their right and freedom good bye.

etaphase said it best- think independantly for yourself not what the masses like for you to think.

I guess not everyone can count sheep when they try to sleep at night.

well if you like their movies, then you should respect their opinions more. just like if you have a friend that you think is smart. when they say something, you take it more seriously. Amazing. Lending credence to a near sighted, hollywood liberal who does not live in the same world as the other 99.5% of the populace just because he or she is talented in the entertainment field. That is really in the same ball park as some women who were asked why they voted for Clinton, their answer was because he was good looking.
The One V6.0

I didn't write the article i posted - but it was Matrix related and I thought it was interesting - so don't start attacking me.

But I do have to say that I think this is a very relevant thread as the entire BASIS of the Matrix world is about revolution and revolt and anti-machine/system.

The Wachowski Brothers have every right to express their views, beliefs and opinions in their movies. That's what a movie is all about!!! Same as a song. It is a creative process. It is art. They are creating something from within themselves to express to the world. The world happens to like it. That's all. If they didn't then they wouldn't be popular and this board probably wouldn't exist. The fact does remain that The Matrix is very popular and the entire movie was created from ideas from these two guys.
It is not just a product. It is an art.

They are NOT servants. They are artists and we pay good money to watch their art. BUSH is a SERVANT. As are all elected and government officials. BUSH is the servant that should be obeying WE THE PEOPLE - but what does he do? Ignores not only the UN's disapproval about attacking Iraq - but HIS OWN PEOPLE!!!

Mr. Bush is a bad for business President. In his term he has gotten most of our allies to rally against us. He has taken away many civil liberties and freedoms. He has used 9/11 as a political platform to not only boost his approval rating, and god forbid get re-elected next term, but also used it to help out his oil buddies. Both Bush Presidents are evil. The Axis of Evil is right here in River City...wake up!!!!

What happens when we get attacked by terrorists again? Who are we going to bomb then? We already wiped out Afghanistan and Iraq...

Also, did you know we STILL do not know WHO DID 9/11?!
Doesn't that boggle your mind that it's almost 2 years later and we STILL DON'T KNOW WHO DID IT?! Yet we used it as a basis to attack 2 countries and squash our rights here in America.

More effort and money was put into the recent Shuttle explosion than has been invested into finding out who was behind 9/11.
Sound fishy? Check out http://www.emperors-clothes.com

Bush is off setting other people "free" while his own people are being imprisoned within their own country. It's a sick, sad world here and we'd better do something about it.

And in regards to building mini-nukes here in American - the mentality of the Bush Administration - THIS IS NO JOKE - they feel that we are the only world SUPERPOWER so we do not have to adhere to the rules that other countries do. THAT IS HOW THEY THINK! Doesn't that scare the crap out of you?

For all Americans on this board, you need to wake up, impeach Bush and get a real president in there. For all of you who are in other countries...help us!

You can sit here and tell me how great Bush is and put me down for being anti-bush, but I GUARANTEE YOU I have MORE VALID INFORMATION to show how evil Bush is, than you can ever come up with to show how "good a guy" he is. Do the research. It's pretty scary what our "president" (I use the term loosely, since he was not actually elected - but APPOINTED by the Supreme Court) is all about.

But hey, don't listen to me, because I'm just one man with an opinion. But then again, so was Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, JFK and so many others...

Peace and love my brothers and sisters....
ae2198

well said V 6.0!!!!

it burns me up inside when people say how compassionate Bush is. give me a break. he tried to sell the idea that iraq had weapons of mass destruction, tried to tell us that saddam hussan was linked to the 9/11 attacks. neither was true. then used the poor people of iraq as an excuse for us to invade and take over iraq. if he is so compassionate, why doesnt he take out fidel castro too while he's at it. he's a dictator just like saddam. cruel to his people like saddam. been in power for over 30 yrs. people were vunerable and wanted pay back for the 9/11 attacks and bush found his guiena pig to point the finger to bc he knew americans are irrational, illogical people. used that vunerablity to his advantage and did what his dad counldn't finish. he completed his agenda and manipulated the world to his liking.

sad thing is like V 6.0 said was that he was APPOINTED NOT ELECTED. half of americans didnt even vote for him yet they overwhelmingly support him just because it would be UNAMERICAN if you dont agree with your president's view on things. BS! in my opinion, george bush is a horrible president. not just his foreign policies and actions but like at our economy. it stinks! i pray to god that he doesnt get reelected bc if he does, that will be the biggest mistake ever made!
