File Formats for Signature Images

I was wondering why the board doesn't display signature images that have a .gif file format. Even using the [img] codes in the sig text, it doesn't display the .gif picture, just the [img] code i use. Is it that GIFs are not allowed in sigs, or what?

Mine's a gif, so the problem could be your host......
