Is the matrix spiritual?

good, evil, fate, messiah, prophets, purpose, predestination, a real world in war while everyone is caught up in another world obviously oblivious to whats really happening- so much spiritual content. but what religion are the brothers actually pointing to?

my friend said that she read/saw an interview with the Wachowski brothers. Apparently they were talking about how they did intend Zion to be the biblical Zion...which was the promised land for the Jews (symbolizing Isreal)
