how do i make the cheats work?

i have lots of trouble understanding what the hacking is for.
i have some cheats and when i type them in it says that the cheats are enabled, but then when i play nothing happens.
please some1 direct to a FAQ or tell me yourself.
im having a nervous break down!!!

did you save the game because it work for me. But 1 time I didn't save it and it didn't work.

first you must have a saved game. enter the hacking system in the game. unlock the command allowing cheats. IMPORTANT:TO OPEN CHEATS TYPE:CHEAT.EXE BEFORE EVERY CHEAT NUMBER , ENTER CHEAT. (YOU HAVE TO PUT THE WORD HELP THEN TYPE CHEAT.EXE AFTER THAT LOOK FOR THE WORD CHEAT ON THE SIDE AND INPUT THE CHEATCODE)

at top click playstation 2
click E
scroll down and look for enter the matrix, dont click the enter the matrix link but rather look right and it will list. Faq, codes, ...., and Message board.

obviously click faq, then choose one.
