Hey all! First thread/post and so a big hey to you all...
I find myself fascinated with the Architect's speech.. especially in what he says and thus does not say and what his words imply. I've been thinking about it a bit and hear me out on my little theory here..
The core message the Architect is giving Neo, is that he is just doing what he is supposed to do, following orders or his fate (like the Merovingian and the Oracle also note). The Architect, like the Oracle, KNOWS what Neo will chose, as he says in his speech. There is also no surprise present when Neo choses Trinity over Zion, only affirmation when he says "Humph. Hope. It is the quintessential human delusion. Simultaneously the source of your greatest strength and your greatest weakness". In fact, by saying that, he shows that he understands how to manipulate Neo with that emotion; his strength and ultimate weakness. Furthermore, we're talking about the Architect here, the creator of the matrix, the Matrix's God if you will. Why would he even leave an option open for Neo to chose, if that was not his very intent? All in all, it would seem that the Architect WANTED Neo to chose Trinity, not Zion!!
Now let's consider the option Neo did not chose, the Source. We know that the Source is in fact, the mainframe of the Matrix, the very core of it all. By entering the source, his program (the anomaly) would have acces to the base of the matrix and thus could change or destroy it at will, which would end the Matrix and thus the war, exactly as the prophecy had predicted. Yet, the Architect wants us to believe that by entering the Source, Neo would start a new cycle and rebuild Zion once again. Failing to do so, would lead to the extermination of all connected to the Matrix and so, together with the destruction of Zion, the end of humanity. However, this does not happen when Neo choses this option.....
To me, it seems that the anomaly (Neo) is nothing more than a debugging program, ment to detect flaws in the original programming, gather that data and so improve the Matrix, which in essence is what the Architect reveals in it's speech... Neo has gone from being human to becoming a program much like the Oracle, Merovingian, etc, etc. The Agents and the likes are simply blockades and safety processes that Neo activates to test the Matrix. By doing so, Neo has created an extra glitch in the Matrix; Smith. Perhaps because of that, the Architect wants Neo to go back into the Matrix and watch and test the Smith glitch even further...
I know there are many holes in this theory, but I just wanted to share it with you guys and see how you feel about it... ;)
I like it. The question I ask you is. Who is the source? It looks like it is not the mainframe , right. And if Neo is a anomily then the architect does not have full control over him. Sure he will find the flaws but also he will be able to destroy the system, including the architect. Who's the ultimate source? is were I think they are going, for both Zion and the matrix. The real world( Zion) has laws (programs) too.
Ha ha...very good theory. I was considering it myself. But then go a few steps further:why was Neo's reaction so different from the ones before him? Was Arc reaching a little too far with this "experiment"? Or was it <shiver> he had really planned this all along? Why then did this Neo break the chain? Had he perhaps perfected whatever he created Neo for ("We've destroyed Zion 6 times and believe me, we're getting better each time") and decided this was the last straw? This was the end of the experiment or grand scheme that took so many Neos and Zions to implement? This could be why he's sure he'll never see Neo again, even another generation of Neo? Chilling theory...also, why did Trinity NOT die, like he promised? Of course, being technical u could say that her heart did stop...but that's another line of discussion from then on.
Now consider this:maybe he really didn't expect this reaction. Maybe he was lying about his extent of control and secretly shocked he chose his path. What then? What, indeed....
Child of Zion: you are a true potential my friend. It's a first post to be noted. Very well done :D
Seriously, you have a good theory, I'm backing you about the debugging. I didn't actually think about how Smith fits into this, but you might have a point. Good thinking.
I have been thinking about this more. What if the matrix is following the general laws of the universe. And lets say we beleive in reincarnation. And connect life purpose to reincarnation. So if a being does not complete its task, then that life or system is not complete and fails. Thus the being would need to be reborn to try again, getting closer every time. As beings in the system gets closer to completing there task, it would seem to allow other beings to get closer to completeing their task since it starts to work more synergistically and with greater order. Order might not be the right word here. You get the idea though. I don't think the Arc is controlling everything, he is just getting closer to completing his task, as is Neo and everyone else. Its just that the Arc's ego idientifies with have total control.
One thing about the smiths. If you watched the previews after the credits. Smith i think has become almost like Neo. you saw him basically flying at neo throug walls. FLYING. Also the oracles voice says. Neo is the only one standing in his way. We dont know who the 'his' is but we can make an assumption according to the previews that it is Smith. when neo is walking down the bridge you see like 3 rows of smiths going on for miles. and then the Main smith and Neo meet up and fight. Also in reloaded, smith say that he wants everything. And since he has the ability to copy himself, i believe he Actually took over the matrix.
I think that your theory is very clever and in fact it could well be true. however you are right there are a few flaws in it.
I don't see Neo as the debugging program himself but the embodyment of the flaws in the current version of the matrix. For that he's referred to as an anomaly. The architect, if you ask me that is, looks at that anomaly and uses that to see how he can improve the Matrix. I think most people agree with that theory though.
So explain to me, a newbie -- why would the architect destroy zion 6 times? If they were able to destroy it the first time -- why keep recycling the program in order to destroy it more "effectively"?
-=Gobucssteel=-
To facilitate the phrophacy there has to a zion and people to believe in it. So that there can be a one and he can serve his purpose and then return to the source. None of Neo's apparent purppose would work if there was no Zion and then where would the acritect be he would be stuck with one old buggy matrix.

The Architect ~~ Complete Transcription ~~
Arc: Hello, Neo.
Neo: Who are you?
Arc: I am the Architect. I created the Matrix. I've been waiting for you. You have many questions and though the process has altered your consciousness , you remain irrevocably human. Ergo, some of my answers you will understand and some of them you will not. Concurrently, while your first question may be the most pertinent, you may or may not realize it is also the most irrelevant.
Neo: Why am I here?
Arc: Your life is the sum of a remainder of an unbalanced equation inherent to the programming of the matrix. You are the eventuality of an anomaly, which despite my sincerest efforts I have been unable to eliminate from what is otherwise a harmony of mathematical precision. While it remains a burden assiduously avoided, it is not unexpected and thus not beyond a measure of control. Which has led you inexorably here.
Neo: You haven’t answered my question.
Arc: Quite right. Interesting. That was quicker than the others.
(screens burst out into questions mostly about "what others")
Arc: The matrix is older than you know. I prefer counting from the emergence of one integral anomaly to the emergence of the next in which case this is the 6th version.
(screens pretty much all start calling him a liar and or attempting to figure his words out, except one…)
Neo (in one of the screens): There are only two possible explanations: either no one told me, or no one knows. (inside this screen becomes the new scene)
Arc: Precisely. As you are undoubtedly gathering the anomaly is systemic. Creating fluctuations in even the most simplistic equations.
(screens all pretty much start cussing out and flipping off the architect. Again, except one which becomes the new scene)
Neo: Choice. The problem is choice.
(scene changes to the struggle between Trinity and an agent and then back again)
Arc: The first matrix I designed was quite naturally perfect. It was a work of art. Flawless, Sublime. A Triumph equaled only by it’s monumental failure. The inevitability of it’s doom is apparent to me now as a consequence of the imperfection inherent in every human being. Thus I redesigned it based on your history. To more accurately reflect the varying grotesqueries of your nature. However, I was again frustrated by failure. I have since come to understand that the answer eluded me because it required a lesser mind or perhaps a mind less bound by the parameters of perfection. Thus the answer was stumbled upon by another. An intuitive program initially created to investigate certain aspects of human psyche. If I am the father of the matrix, she would undoubtedly be it’s mother.
Neo: The oracle.
Arc: Please. As I was saying, she stumbled upon a solutions whereby nearly 99% of all test subjects accepted the program as long as they were given a choice. Even if they were only aware of the choice at a near unconscious level. While this answer functioned it was obviously fundamentally flawed, thus creating the otherwise contradictory systemic anomaly. That if left unchecked might threaten the system itself. Ergo, those that refuse the program, while a minority, if unchecked would constitute an escalating probability of disaster.
Neo: This is about Zion.
Arc: You are here because Zion is about to be destroyed. It’s every living inhabitant terminated. It’s entire existence eradicated.
Neo: Bull****! (screens echo this sentiment)
Arc: Denial is the most predictable of all human responses. But rest assured, this will be the sixth time we have destroyed it. And we have become exceedingly efficient at it.
(another jump to the Trinity/agent struggle and back)
Arc: The function of "The One" is now to return to the source allowing a temporary dissemination of the code you carry, reinserting the prime program. After which you will be required to select from the matrix 23 individuals, 16 female 7 male, to rebuild Zion. Failure to comply with this process will result in a cataclysmic system crash killing everyone connected to the matrix. Which coupled with the extermination of Zion will ultimately result in the extinction of the entire human race.
Neo: You won’t let it happen. You can’t. You need human beings to survive.
Arc: There are levels of survival we are prepared to except. However, the relevant issue is whether or not you are ready to except the responsibility for the death of every human being in this world.
(Shows a bunch of random humans on the screens)
Arc: It is interesting reading your reactions. Your five predecessors were by design based on a similar predication. A contingent affirmation that was meant to create a profound attachment to the rest of your species, facilitating the function of "The One". While the others experienced this in a very general way, your experience is far more specific. Vis-a-vis, love.
Neo: Trinity.
Arc: Apropos, she entered the matrix to save your life at the cost of her own.
Neo: No!
Arc: Which brings us, at last, to the moment of truth. Wherein the fundamental flaw is ultimately expressed and the anomaly revealed as both beginning and end. There are two doors: The door to your right leads to the source and the salvation of Zion. The door to your left leads back to the matrix to her and to the end of your species. As you adequately put, the problem is choice. But we already know what you are going to do, don’t we. Already I can see the chain reaction. The chemical precursors that signal the onset of an emotion designed specifically to overwhelm logic and reason. An emotion that is already blinding you from the simple and obvious truth: She is going to die and there is nothing you can do to stop it.
(Neo walks toward the left door)
Arc: Humph. Hope. It is the quintessential human delusion. Simultaneously the source of your greatest strength and your greatest weakness.
Neo: If I were you, I would hope that we don’t meet again.
Arc: We won’t.
(Neo takes his exit) I thought you might like to read the origional script because it has been an invaluable text for me. A debugging programne. Well for a start he can debug the virus Smith for a start. No I think he is more than that.
Yes, debugging.
The Architect is trying to destroy the anomaly, or at least contain it. He designed Zion to produce a pure manifestation of the anomaly's cause (ie, Neo and his LOVE (for Neo 6 his love is focused on Trinity)) in order to examine the anomaly and its underlying cause up close, under a microscope, and this in order to design programs to destroy or contain it. The Architect's prime directive is to perfect the Matrix by eliminating or disabling the anomaly.
View Full Version : Architect is simply debugging...
