And neo is showing more machine like characteristics. He's able to sense agents, even sense sentinels at the end of the movie (he says he can feel them now). Neo: is human and gains more and more machine/program like traits Smith: a program and is getting more and more human characteristics Which is substantiated in the book "out of control", which was mandatory reading for Keanu Reeves before he started training for the movie.
