How many agents?
Does anyone know how many agents there are inside the matrix, appart from smith and his copys. The most that ive seen is 3 and you would think that if they had more that they would send them all into the building with the door to stop neo or the building Morpheas was being held in when neo and trinity tried to rescue him.
M1 gave us 3 agents working as one, M2 gives us 3 agents working as one.
I am guessing that there is some internal limitation that says there should only be or only need 3.
Of course one was assimilated by Smith in M2, we'll see if he's replaced in M3.

Correct....as far as I've seen, there are 3 Agents at a time.
Well, the question isn't so much how many agents are there, but how many versions of an agent program there are. We might have identified three unique programs we call "agents" in M1. These can't so easily be "killed", even by Neo. He can kill the "process" of a running agent program (the body an agent program has taken over), but the program can be run to be re-inserted into the matrix and the agent can continue to take over a bodies (processes). Even when Smith was decommissioned, he still existed as a program that chose to remain in an exiled existence. As the Smith agent program no longer fulfilled its duty, another was created which means four identified agent programs existed. But then you would need to define an agent. What is an agent? Is an agent a program, created by someone such as the architect, to carry out the deeds required by the creator? Would not the oracle then be an agent? How about the oracles protector? What about the program created to manage the birds, the wind, and the setting of the sun? In this case we may never know the true number of agents, for many programs were created for many tasks.
Well, that’s just a thought.
