Creative movie, cheap ending !

I did enjoy the movie and had been looking forward to it for a long time.

However. I also was very dissapointed with the ending "to be concluded". I do not just mean the caption, but the way the movie ended. From the discussions in the theater afterwards it was obvious I was not alone in sharing that view.

I felt that the ending could have been done with a bit more creativity to match the rest of the movie. You dont see such captions in the ending of Star Wars movies. Each episode feels like a complete movie, sure you know that another episode is on the drawing board.

The matrix reloaded should have felt like a complete movie !

I hope they do not go a low as to produce a "Matrix" Television mini series or a soapie.

The first Lord of the rings felt like an installment. It did not inspire me to hanker for the next movie, rather it took me some time to get around to seeing it.

That's what I felt !

That is the down side. I loved the primeval dance in Zion. The martial arts were spectacular and I am still digesting the challenges that the inner workings of the matrix have thrown up. I like the lateral thinking exercise.

And the rest "to be continued"

so they should make the ending like all the other sci-fi endings out there?

of course we don't like how it ends, we want to know what happens. well too bad I say. the empire strikes back left people hanging too ya know. It just didn't leave people with as many questions.

Since when do all sci-fi movies end the same ?

Ever seen gattica ?

I like to be left with questions to answer, the best movies leave you with such thinking. Sometimes I may think about a movie for days or weeks as I digest the lateral challenges it throws up. However the "ending" of the Matrix reloaded treated the viewer like a dumb consumer, they just need a few adds to make it really feel like TV.

I guess the simple example as to how a movie like that should end is "the Matrix". Did that seem like part 1 of a series ?

"To be continued"
ssk

It is like begging the audience to see the next part. The story itself was compelling enough for people to wait for the next part, but it was a bit cheap to end like that.

alright, I'm going to explain this one more time for the mentally impaired.

it doesn't matter what other movies have done. the wbs are doing what they think is right to do, and they have done it perfectly.

when the matrix was being made, they didn't know if they were going to actually make the sequels, only after it became popular were they signed for those, so of course the first movie was made to be self-contained in the event that the sequels would get canned.

remember the back to the future trilogy and how each of those ended? one of the best sci-fi series ever made. but whatever, you guys have all the answers about what makes a movie good.

You know what is stupid? This:
I felt that the ending could have been done with a bit more creativity to match the rest of the movie. You dont see such captions in the ending of Star Wars movies.

Yeah, let's do it like star wars. Great attitude.

I agree that the ending was slightly disapointing. The movie was great but only for fans intending to see the entire series. Matrix 1 was a whole movie, and would have survived even without any sequels.

I think a good compromise would have been to end the movie with Morpheus' inspirational speech and the rave dance, to show the humans hadn't given up hope before the final attack. (Most star wars movies ended with a party :) )
