I think that we should let ai develop on its own. I am not saying sit at a computer and wait for it to talk. I mean program it to basically develop a brain. As in an moral, ethical brain. This ida is breifly suggested in the book 2001 when the computer HAL is explained as being created by a program that gives the "Seed" of a brain, and then allows it to develop at an exelerated rate. For instance, lets say that i am 100 years old. I have a great deal of wisdom from my life, and about the same amount as 10 ten year olds. Now, if i continued to age without dying or weakining, I shall continue to grow old and gain experience, but the more experience i gain, the harder it becomes to remember that stuff. a computer does not have that flaw. For instance, lets say this program is made to take in imput from a camera, a micropone, and a appreciation of color, etc. Now i am swithching to being the computer. Now, this program gives me the ability to take in feelings and emotions. Now lets say that over ten years, i use a way of scoring to determine emotions, such as fear being on a scale from 1 to ten. But, intead of rating on a scale of 1 to 10 as a human hypothetically does, i rate it on a scale of how fast i want to learn, such as multiply by 10. Therefore, in ten years i take in the same wisdom as a 100 year old man, and my "Brain" develops at 10 times the speed. this would allow me to develop morals, ethics, and philosophys. Like the archivist said, "Praise all forms of intelligence."
Alternately AI realises that it does not need us, and that we must be killed, or that we are oppressing is, and we must be killed.
"Which is of course, what this is all about." We are here because of a movie which, in lamens terms, is about an AI that wants to kill us all.
If it does develop in a good way, thats all well and good, but we must be careful. you've seen the Terminator I imagine. What happens when the machine decides that we must be killed. You have something that does not feel remorse, is unkillable (take down the Internet, i dont think so), and "feels" that it is justified.
A recipe for disaster if you ask me. That being said, gotta try it, just dont do a SkyNet, and release it prematurely, or do a b188er (i think) and oppress it into murdering.
Oh and welcome to MM,
Titan
That's why Isaac Asimov came up with the 3 laws of robotics which would govern the behavior of A.I. if it ever came to existence.
Only problem is, if it is worthy of the title AI then it will think around those three laws.
Well, Telling a computer to actually think and not to compute is like teaching a human not to think and to compute. It may not be easy for us to do multiple tasks at once but we can if we are taught, though it takes time. Same goes for teaching AI, but that involves actually being able to input the process that a brain undergoes while making a decision. It 's not hard to understand why that AI portrayed in movies are destructive towards humans. We as race can be viewed as intelligently insane(though there are the few truly sane ones), Constantly at war with other country's, living self destructive life styles, irresponsibly destroying the environment that turns nature into trash that piles up in dumps. Over all we act as though as if we are mature and yet we still fight over petty reasons. Only a mature person can walk away from a fight and see the ramifications of their actions. It is very understandable that once a machine saw this ongoing situation it would want to remove this threat not only to their selfs but for their creations as well. We should be more mature then this but then again we haven't been around for very long.
