Photoshop

I'm just looking at purchasing some new image manip type software and wanted some input. I know a few of you have photoshop, do you have elements or the full versions. What other software of a similar ilk can you recommend. What is good, what isn't. In short, help!

Photoshop is undoubtedly the best, but I wouldn't buy it. Not for 600 dollars. Not even an old version for 200. And elements is useless.

Photoshop will always reign in my book. I've got the full version of PS 7, of which I got semi-illegally from an undisclosed source *cough*TINM*cough*.

PS 8 (CS) is out now, but I'm sure 9 or something is on the way.

Paint Shop Pro X is out now by Corel, which is probably the only rival of PS out there.

What is this 'PS 7' you speak of? I know nothing of it.

Photoshop is the best without question,some of the crap I played around with before I...obtained...Photoshop scares me.
