Comcast is teaming up with Google in talks about taking a stake in Time Warner's AOL web portal. The three companies are discussing joint ownership of AOL, which would help Google by killing talks between AOL and Microsoft.
Any deal between AOL and MSN could threaten Google, since AOL is major contributor to Google's thriving internet ad business, accounting for 11 percent of Google's $2.6 billion in revenue during the first half of this year.
The three companies plan to leverage their content and consumer reach to create a web portal powerhouse. Google is the nation's most popular search engine, while Comcast and Time Warner are the top two cable operators. Time Warner also owns many media properties including Warner Bros., CNN and HBO.
Teaming up with Time Warner would really allow Google to further its push into indexed searchable media, although I hate to see them bringing AOL into the mix.
AOL needs to just drop off the face of the earth. It did its job at getting households into the internet back in the 90's, but now they're just a joke. The only thing still of use from them is AIM, and that's becoming less popular.
I agree PP. Although I have AOL, It is definately the devil's tool and a complete pain in the ass. I don't even use my AIM anymore. I much prefer MSN and am growing fond of Google Talk as well. I hope they don't bring AOL into it. AOL to me is like the old DOS. It suited its purpose and now needs to be put on the shelf. I am already looking for new internet access. It was not my choice in the first place. It should be interesting to see how all this pans out.

I got rid of AIM soon after google talk came out. I just use that and Trillian. AOL was fresh and new way back in the 90's, but its just plain annoying now. Google is the future...
I used to get these "free trial" AOL discs in the mail, those were fun.
I don't think I've ever thrown a compact disc that far unless it was an AOL disc..
From my point of view AOL is like paying for the internet twice. You have to pay for your service through your ISP and then pay AOL for some retarded service which is supposed to make surfing the net easier?? I don't even fucking understand the concept behind the fucking idea because any person who has half a brain would understand that AOL is making you pay for everything that the internet gives you for free.
Please, if someone can PLEASE tell me what AOL is good for other than AIM I'd really love to have some reason to throw them free trial discs even further.
They used to hand out free AOL trial CD's at the exit of the movie theatre. Oh man, we had some good times with those. Once we spelt "F U C K" with about 100 of those CD's in the theatre parking lot. Then, of course, the countless games of throwing the discs. That was put to a stop, though. Right after we broke the McDonald's arches that light up on their sign after hurling the discs at it.
Oh yeah, you gotta be careful with them things, they're more dangerous than you could ever imagine.
That capitalist evil simply OOZES through them, they YEARN to cause you to have to pay for something. If they can't get you to break something by being thrown, they'll pull a boomerang and smack you in the face to rack up your medical bills.
I mean shit, I even heard of one guy who threw one that mysteriously caused a thirty vehicle pile up on the 7 out of Raymondvill.
Crazy shit man... crazy shit.
