Is my girlfriend right?

Travis

I have a 500 dvd strong collection that i'm very proud of. It comprises of region 1 and 2 films. Some of my dvd's, whilst not explicit are of the cult variety. Such as a movie called 'I spit on your grave'. My girlfriend recently watched it one evening whilst I was out. When I got back she went ballistic and made me snap the disc in two. Was she right? have any of you seen this cult classic?

She's obviously insane. She's threatened by FICTION!!!

= NUTJOB!

Look, there's more tang out there than 1 man knows what to do with - there's no reason to suffer or sacrifice for it.

Loose her - fast!!

I doesn't matter what it was: a dvd, a cd, some freaky statue of something...your gf has no right to order you around and force you to do things like that! I have a friend who has that problem, he always gets into relationships where the girls boss him around and treat him badly when he definetly deserves better that them. Don't let her do that to you, talk to her...

Hi all,

This is the 'psycho' girlfriend with a dislike of films that contain 90% rape scenes..

I've got a couple of things to say:

1. I would question the use of the phrase "made me" snap it in two. I expressed a dislike of the film and left the decision to my bloke as to what to do with it. At no point was a gun held to his head/his arm twisted behind his back.

2. If my boyfriend wants to dump me, he is welcome to. That would give him more free time to watch women being raped and beaten on DVD/video.

3. I appreciate that fiction is just that - but find it slightly worrying that gang rape is considered entertainment by some. I accept that there are films with 'graphic' scenes in - sometimes violent/racist/homophobic etc - but can't appreciate a film that is 100% and 0% plot.

The film isn't entertaining - it employs shock tactics to create a talking point. In that sense, the film has achieved what it set out to do...as we're on here doing exactly that.

Finally - I would be interested to see how my 'man' reacts to me buying a dvd that he finds offensive. I'm off to the local p0rn emporium to buy some guy-on-guy action to time how long it takes for my boyfriend to bin my purchase.

Thanks for reading

p.s. before the accusations come flying my way - I'm not a feminist.

Your negative opinion of the artistic merits of a film owned by your BF is NOT why you asked him to destroy it so stop talking about the plot and dramatic tactics of the film like there's anything that could redeem it in your eyes.

You object because you felt threatened by it. The question is - is this rational?

Does he own several films where rape is a central theme?

If he does that might validate your concern.

But in that case it's not up to HIM to destroy the films - it's up to YOU to remove yourself from a situation you find threatening or uncomfortable.

But it sounds like it's only 1 of dozens of cult type horror films.

In that case - your request was unfair to begin with.

Neither of you should feel compelled to alter your interests for the other.

That's slavery.

Either you accept each other - or you don't. But don't try to ALTER each other.

I got a coupel words for you, Dump her @$$

Never seen it, :( , someone wanna tell me what its about?
funkyhorror

i havn't seen the movie so i cannot really comment on that...

people have different opinions on things... but that doesn't mean we have to all conform and have the same opinion... destroying the DVD without wanting to is just... silly... no matter how much you want someone to think different of you... if its something that you like then good... don't let other people's opinions make you think otherwise (unless their really good ones that make you think otherwise... in that case go for it)... but if it was against your will... .... ..... i like dots... :D

spank her man, show her who is boss! if i were u i would show her who wears the pants in the family! LoL!

Roark,

You don't know me and are therefore in no position to comment on what I think and feel or what my motivations were for raising the issue of my discomfort with my boyfriend.

I find it hard to believe that you feel you can understand how someone's mind works on the basis of one piece of information related to them. For your information i wasn't threatened by the film, but thought I would tell my boyfriend what it was that he had purchased - having never seen it he had often wondered what it was about.

I appreciate that there are other films in existence with violent themes - some rape-related - but feel that this was the sickest piece of 'art' I had ever seen. I imagine from your comments that you have not seen the film yourself, which might explain why you dismiss it as being '1 of dozens of cult type horror films'.

Its not a horror film. Its an hour of footage of a woman being gang-raped and beaten.

I am not asking my boyfriend to alter his interests. If rape/abuse does it for him then who am I to disagree. I sought to inform him about the contents of the film and nothing else.

I'm not trying to 'alter' him. I'm merely expressing an opinion.

If i'd found a dvd containing simulated child p0rnogrpaphy, would you all be so quick to shout "live and let live". Probably not. I'd imagine that my boyfriend would be condemned by most people, as that sort of film would be considered 'unacceptable'.

Before anyone says - "the film is fictional", so how can any comparisons with ch1ld p0rn be made. I appreciate that, but find it equally disturbing that there is a market out there for realistic brutal rape footage.

Right, I've said my bit so I'll be off.
