gas prices

so, how expensive is it where you live? 'round here it's about $2.20 a gallon, but it was recently up to $3.00. feel free to express your rage at the unfairness of the government jackin up prices when they get it in Saudi Arabia for like 8 cents.

For low-grade it's $2.51 cheap gas (Arco, mom-n-pop stations) right now, but it had gotten up to $2.69...For the more expensive brands (Chevron, Shell, 76), it's $2.65 plus... which is fucking absurd seeing as how the refinery is, oh, 7-10 minutes away from the gas station. Gotta love that zone pricing.

I guess we've got it lucky; right now the average gallon is 2.10 (regular or premium; they don't seem to have much of a difference between in price, for some odd reason...).

We had some guy in town rig his truck (that originally ran on diesel) to run on....wait for it...... used cooking oil. Yup, the shnasty black crap that once filled friers at McDonald's-type places. Since the oil's used, he gets it completely free, and it cost him around 3k to convert the truck to filter and use the crap. His truck still uses a wee smidgen of diesel, but he only has to fill it up every three months or so.

Crazy? Yeah, I thought so.

Yeah, that'd be cool if the automotive industry could change over to Hydrogen power or cooking-oil power or something. However, it would be an almost impossible change. It would take years.......

GM said in less than 10 years they could have an entire electric or hybrid fleet of vehicles, but they ain't gonna do nothin THAT fuckin dumb, now are they?

Or propane. I have seen a lot of vehicles that run on that. I have seen a few that run on vegetable oil. Of course, if a few million people start needing vegetable oil to get their cars to work then what do you suppose will happen to the price of vegetable oil?

There are plenty of hybrid or electric vehicles on the market right now, but very few people are willing to buy them.

That, and I wouldn't want to get into a wreck in something like an 'Echo'...I think hybrids and electrics are doing better than what many people expected up to this point, though.

True, the Prius seems to be the current popular choice. Their limited size is certainly one of the restricting points. Get hit in one of those by most anything else, not to mention an SUV, and you are not going to be happy.

I've seen a few cars with CNG, not to mention the MTA requires all their new buses to be CNG.

Gas prices here though have gone up to $3 in some places, but lately it's been in and around $2.50 for regular unleaded. Too much if you ask me.

Wow, Australian petrol sounds cheaps compared to you guys....For regular petrol at Shell its about 111.9 cents a litre, for premium its about 116 cents a litre.

I wish I knew how much that was in American terms Splin.
Anyway I'm excited b/c gas just went down a lot! It's actually $1.98 for regular, then goes up to $2.11 for premium. I'm driving a couple hours away for a concert on Thursday, & now I can afford it!

And since I live in the country, its more expensive for fuel. The lucky buggers who live in Geelong near the refinery still get it for 98 cents a litre.

Hooray! Petrol just went down to 108.9 cents a litre! And since I had a trusty little Coles fuel voucher, I got 4 cents a litre off. There is a god.

Don't bag the metric system, it's the only one that makes sense:
10mm = 1cm 100cm = 1m 1000m = 1km.

Compared to what:
12 inches = 1 foot 5,280 feet = 1 mile

That just isn't right, go metric it's nice and simple. And logically 0 degrees would be freezing point and 100 boiling point.
