What is the Devil?

I've been thinking a lot about this subject lately, and it's interesting to me. A lot of different religions have ideas on where evil comes from and so on. Theres a lot of different ideas on who "Satan" really is, and what he is/isn't. The Bible says he's a fallen angel...etc, but maybe theres some theories YOU guys have as to what he/it could really be?
For me, I think he might not be an actual being PER SE, as "he" is a metaphor for the potential evil that is inside all of us...?

The Devil is Temptation. He is Lies. He is Anger. He is Crime. He is Greed. He is Selfishness. He is Excessive Pride. He is War. He is Murder. He is Wasted Life. He is Hate. He is everything that destroys Life, and makes people go against God.

I know it's not all in the bible, but that's how I view him. God, on the other hand... you get the picture.

The Devil is an abomonation created by God in the bible to push blame off onto. Famine, disease? These horrible things could not have been the result of the fabulous almighty one, thus Lucifer was born.

lol Im just shittin ya... Lucifer was the first angel created by God and was the closest to him, but then God created man. Of course jealous Lucifer revolted led the war and he and a third of the angels were cast from heaven. After which Lucifer in his jealousy/hate for humans convinced Eve and Adam to bite the apple causing the first sin thus getting them banished from the sacred garden.

Actually I do believe DP that before the second coming of christ luifer is supposed to make an appearance as well. More like a possesion of the body in anti-christ after he gets killed.

What is the Devil, what is Satan, what is Lucifer?

Well, lucifer, according to the general Christian church is indeed the rogue angel Helios discussed. The Angel of light and music if I'm correct. His rebellion consisted out of him wanting to become God, and him wanting everyone to become God.
God was not pleased, and kicked him out, following the creation of Hell (and all it's levels, according to Dante).

Now, a serpent/snake did seduce Adam and Eve, and his name closely resembles satan, but I doubt one could call this one lucifer. After all, Genesis is also mentioned in the Torah, and the Torah makes, if I'm correct, no true reference to Lucifer, let alone making 'satan' lucifer.

Finally, the Devil is, well, it's just a name for the carnation of evil, referencing thus to satan and lucifer, and most certainly to DPD.

And Helios, the Anti-Christ is not Lucifer. The anti-Christ is a servant of lucifer, who seduces mankind and gains great power and eventually makes a false church, or something vague along those lines. Than Christ reappears and wastes him.

Anyway, the problem is that lucifer is just a reference to a king, I believe babylonian, and the devil and satan are just literal entities created for a good laugh and a good scare.

Interesting enough, Helios, the line in red was also said by Jesus Christ ;).

The anti-christ (it is foretold) like Hannibal said, is a servent of the devil that unites the world at one point in the future, which signals the beginning of the end. Then Christ comes back and destroys him and his power.

The Devil/Satan/Lucifer represents all things evil in the world: hate, famine, war, greed, etc.

Christ doesnt do anything about evil, because Christ is an absentee landlord. The Devil is what ever a person wants him to be. The devil represents yet another quick and easy answer to problems most people really dont want to address. If we are to pretend that Lucifer truly existed then he is no more evil than any other who tried to overthrow his ruler. Which, religiously speaking, has to be a load of shit because angels didnt have free will, only humans were given that.

The Devil is nothing because JC is nothing. Only the New is good and he's the devil too. Or. Not.

I will have to agree with u on that. The Devil has, how can I say...alot of stories. Of who he is n why...
But I see it that the Devil is also the Monkey on ur back. The lil'voice that u have in ur head telling u do stuff that u think will be ok, but it the end is the biggest mistake u have ever done. N the f**ked up thing about it, that u knew better.

No seriously, the "devil" is whatever people fear it to be (I won't grace some idea of evil with a "him" or a "her". Ideas dont have a sex until further notice) just as god is whatever people wish it to be... the two of them coexist and have been created in the human mind which is, as everybody here agrees I hope, able of both the worst and the best. I know it's an old idea saying that we all are both god and devil but it's actually the only one that makes a little sense to me...this may or may not apply as well to animals or other things. Devil and god are just made-up names for human beliefs imo. Of course this applies only to the christian god idea as there are and have been some other gods around that were neither good nor nice... I'm not as good at all this rethoric stuff as HU but I hope that what I tried to say makes some sense to some of you.... :rolleyes:

yes that was really really inspired,i think the devil is just another personification of our evil,a thing to scare children like the boogie man,the devil is not real,he's just a character in a story called the bible

devil - d evil - da evil - the evil. as we know the good and the evil are just differences in opinion, so therefore god and the devil must just be differences in opinion.
