Eagles lost....I figured it would happen but they didn't have to make it so close ;_;
NMN

Do you get a kick out of being utterly annoying and obnoxious?

Let's see: Instead of making a thread in Recreation that has a title of a stupid punctuation smiley, why not title the thread about what you're going to talk about?

Secondly, try putting a bit more effort into your threads. Make them discussion worthy. This isn't a chat board.

Thirdly, grow some balls, and stop being a fucking kindergartener.
Helios

^Lmao

So I take it this is not a superbowl discusion thread? :p
PP

WOOOOO!!! YEAH! The cubs won!!!!!
Eon

So I take it this is not a superbowl discusion thread? :p
Oh that's what we're talking about, bloody hell. Add to NMN's list the fact we're an international board and I, as with most other Aussies, don't have a fucking clue who the hell the Eagles are and would most likely think you were talking about the West Coast Eagles, one of our Aussie Rules footy teams.
ThereIsNoMatrix

That was a damned good game. I enjoyed it. Good half time show too. You could tell they wanted to play it safe after last year... None of this edgy, new music with potentially explicit performances... Better stick with something everyone loves - The Beatles.

Neem High Football Rules!
PP

bah, that's not the beatles. It's just a man trying to reclaim both his past and that of others. I love the Beatles, mind you, but Paul just needs to give it up. Or Ringo needs to beat the shit from him.
ThereIsNoMatrix

How can you hate Paul? He's great.
PP

He tries to continue to make money off what he, George, John, and Ringo worked so hard for. George and John are dead, but he keeps going back and replaying their songs, making more and more money off it all, and trying to relive his glory days. It's sickening.
NMN

Well, he did co-write most of the songs. And he sang most of them too. So they're essentially his. Now, Ringo doesn't want anything to do with "The Beatles" anymore, and he signed his rights away to Paul a long time ago. Seeing as how John and George are dead, they can't do much about it. And Paul doesn't sing George's own songs, I think he only sings the ones he had written, or wrote with John. All within the realm of his own talent and usage. You can't hate somebody because they're trying to keep a legacy alive, one that gave them international superstardom.
PP

I don't hate the man; I'm just annoyed. The Beatles were a great thing, and their legacy still lives on and won't die for quite some time. The last thing it needs, though, is someone (even if it WAS one of the members) to run around exploiting their songs. Yes, he helped write them, but helped is the key word here. How much of the stuff he's preforming any more is 100% his new original work, and how much is "beatles"? Sorry, but it just puts him a notch above an impersonator. The rest of the band isn't there behind him, so it'll never be the same. He's just using it for fame.
NMN

People enjoy listening to stuff live. That's why bands have shows. Why not the Beatles? And he didn't help write the songs, he WROTE the songs. They are his with his name. he can do what he wants with them. Just like if Prince dame by and decided to sing one of his songs that he made when he was the Artist Formally Known As Prince. It's still his song.

Of course it'll never be the same. The band broke up in 1970 or somewhere around there. It was never the same after that. It's 35 years later. He's just trying to get people enthralled. Exciting new members, keeping the public informed that they could still hear a great Beatles song live since the band is no longer around, from an ORIGINAL member.
ThereIsNoMatrix

I'd much rather have him continue playing the songs than hear them covered by some crappy band or impersonation.
sm4113r

Incredible how fast this turned from a Spam thread to a Superbowl thread to a Beatles thread. Still, yeah, Hey Jude will always, ALWAYS, make everyone cheer. I do wish Ringo was there too. I'd like to see him singing Yellow Submarine or With a Little Help from My Friends one of these days. Oh well.

As for the game itself, I fell to sleep after the Half-Time show. But, don't blame me, I'm still new to this sport, don't know what a "1st & 10" mean. Anybody?

go UT, lay down the law! and ringo is cool, ironically enough the drummer from my first band looked almost identical to ringo starr, go figure...
DPD

I predicted the score, although not the way they'd get there. Nonetheless, it has been further proven that the best way to spell McNabb is C-H-O-K-E. As for my boy TO, he's the fuckin man. Talk about heart.
eRider

NA-NA NA NA NA .. etc. I loved the halftime show!

The game was great to! Had alot of money and honour on Patriots, so i was fuckin petrified after the first quarter!
ichi_ban1

1st topic: Football. I really wanted to see the New England Patriots get beat but I knew that it probably wouldn't happen. Oh well, next year is coming.

2nd topic: Eh, I agree PP, it will never be the same without the rest of the band but he does have the right to perform the songs. Its like Davy Jones trying to do the Monkees songs without the rest of them.
NMN

Dude, TO will always be the fuckin' man. Even if SF no longer has him.
AlmightyOne

Man I just know the Eagles would have won if it wasn't for McNabb who always buckles under pressure. What kinda quarter back wouldn't be under pressure and throw three interceptions? The way he threw the ball was unbelievably terrible, and because of this the players had to talk him into relaxing because it was costing the whole team.

In the end it didn't work and the Eagles lost by three points, A FIELD GOAL!. Which then I felt the whole Eagles team had a chance at winning that Super Bowl except McNabb due to his lack of talent that game. Once again those stupid Patriots get another Super Bowl win, which they earned don't get me wrong but they're just one of those teams you get sick of seeing win.
Next year is a whole other year though.
DPD

Since this thread's gone off-topic already, and we don't have a recent one, I'm just gonna go ahead and turn it into a general football talk thread because now that we're in the offseason we can speculate about next year, and it'll be good to get some non-local football discussion from everyone in here:

Honestly, next year the Chargers have a lot of potential. I predicted them to make the playoffs this year and everyone scoffed in my face, but what happened. LT got some decent receivers around him and Brees grew some hair on his testes and started to turn into a man. Now, if Marty wouldn't have played Martyball in round 1, the Chargers would've beaten the Jets and got beaten in a Divisional game, but gone out with a better look at next season. If SD can keep Gates and if Caldwell can come back healthy (I think he had 19 receptions and 3 TDs in 2-4 games before going on IR all season), and they keep improve their defense, they can become a legitimate contender in the AFC picture. The Chargers, being from a fair-weather city, probably won't be able to get to the Super Bowl if they have to go through a cold-weather powerhouse's city, like a Pittsburgh, New England, New York, or Buffalo, depending on who's good. However, if the AFC West next year is anything like this year was, they might just have a shot. I'm not saying they'll make SB XL, but if they keep their shit together, they can definitely ruin someone's season and be a major pain in the ass. Watch out for them, especially if they have a good draft in April or June or whenever the Draft is now.
smith_fan

I have no idea about American Football...Is this the game where you actually don't use a foot to kick a ball although it's named "football"? :D

Oh and Paul is great. He's a living legend! ;)
mazman

How is a "touchdown" Not actually a touch down??? They just run across the line! Gridiron is for pussies. Try rugby!
DPD

So REAL football is the game where you run around in short shorts and knee socks and cry like a pussy and fall to the ground flailing your arms anytime a defender gets within three feet of you, then get up and cry to the referee about it?

And rugby's the one that you play in a long sleeve and short shorts and high socks? The one where all you do is lateral and there's no real playcalling or scheming or behind-the-scenes chess game going on? You know why Americans don't play rugby? Becuase no one gives a fuck about rugby. If half the people in the NFL played rugby, you'd all be bitching about how black people were taking over the sport and sending complete teams to the hospital every week. Scoring a try is no harder than scoring a touchdown, the only difference is that you put the ball on the grass, big fucking deal.
mazman

You know why Brits don't play gridiron? Because no one needs to wear padding/armour/helmets/oxygen mask/2-way-radio/GPS system to play a contact sport.
ThereIsNoMatrix

Haha, the foreigners are just jealous.
eRider

not all of us .. i love both games, and im able to follow and play both .. why should i be jealous?

edit: may I suggest a title change by one of the mods? Please?

OK first of all, whoever complained that if you are from Europe and have no idea what I'm talking about then don't post, it's as easy as that. Second of all, I purposefully made the thread that way so as to lure in curious posters. Third of all, I normally would have put more effort into my post but I was at school and was being pressed by the bell but anyways...

I don't see how any of you can talk that way about McNabb. Sure he didn't play his best and that's understandable considering it's the SUPER BOWL but he had really good numbers and really only threw 2 picks because that last one wasn't because of his lack of talent it was just because of desperation. Personally I think they might have just been able to do it if they wouldn't have been WALKING to the line and huddling their second to last drive I mean they knew time was running out.

Patriots are so great and selfless though, I have to give so much respect to Tom Brady mostly because I'm a huge Montana fan and always will be. Brady and Montana are so alike sometimes I get close to thinking that it is Montana reincarnated but then I realize that there is no such thing.

If you want to change the topic title then you can and also, Beatles 4eva iykwim. ^__^
NMN

Thread title changed, E.

LL, I don't care if you're the fucking queen of England, or the President of the US, post a title like that again, and it will be closed.

And pressed by the bell on Sunday? Right after the game? Haha, that's funny.
DPD

McNab just doesn't have what it takes to win the big ones. Rather than having a knack for it, he has to learn to do it. Took him four tries to win the NFC championship game, 3 at home, and it's gonna take him at least two, probably three tries to win the Super Bowl, depending on the competition, and provided that Philly keeps making it back. While poor clock management was an issue that coaching could've helped solve, McNabb was calling them back from the line into the huddle, and while that may not be lack of skill, it definitely could be lack of confidence and a serious mental lapse. A mental lapse that cost the Lombardi Trophy. He just had a bad game, like almost every big game he plays in.
Swabby

no offense to boston fans but i utterly hate new england with a passion...being a oakland raider fan its a must...damn tuck rule will never settle with me, tom brady the liar
