Student says god told him to kill parents

I think he is just trying to copy the woman who drowned her 3 kids. He will probably plead insanity and go to a mental hospital for 2 years, then claim he is fine and be let out.

Pleading insanity requires an analysis of a psychiatrist, and this isn't just an inkblob. Also, it is not that easy to get out of a mental institution. If you want to be cynical about the justice system, but he might indeed be insane. Besides, if he is not, he will have to live with the guilt of killing both his parents.

Still, it is up to the judge to decide what punishment he will receive, and to the jury whether he is even guilty!

To hell with that, have him toss salads every day for the next 5 years...that's worse than any lifetime imprisonment, and cheaper, too.

How many other times have we heard stories like this? People dont want to take responsibility for what they do whether it be God, the weather, their parents, the color of the sky, whatever. Its ridickulous

Insanity is relative, and often used to describe different things, TheDon. However, in the definition of an mental ailment, I completely agree with you :).

Cheap shot? If God is to believed to be omnipresent/omnipotent/omniscient, the possibility exists that this student was indeed his tool, adn that all those people shoving off their responsibility are indeed right.

It's the dogma of religion, and religion is indeed ridiculous.

Is that the way you feel about anyone who has a low moment psychologically and screws up? If that's the case, I would suggest you go into hiding before everyone, yourself included, gets locked away.

The kid messed up big time, and it's all quite stupid. However, it's fully possible to deal with things like this, and ignoring the person won't help anything. Based on your other posts, you seem to think that anyone who participates in a gruesome crime is incapable of being a "functioning" member of society. While I frown upon us being looked at as sheep, the idea does make some sense. (sorry if I fail to make sense)

Like the numerous posts above this one, the kid was looking for an easy-out by saying God told him to do it. Lots of people do the same thing, whether it's by blaming God, alcohol, their mother, our culture, a pair of orange pants, or MTV.
