Now that some of the heat has died down from the elections and all, what are your feelings on these next 4 years ?
________
A lot of my thoughts lie with kerry's last remarks to bush... this country is too divided... something needs to be done..
Like look at the proximity of the past two elections.... compared to Bush vs. Dukakis... Clinton Vs. Bush... Clinton vs Dole....those were definitive victores... I'm concerened that the past two elections were not decided by the evening... it's like we are split totally in half... last time we were split in half we had a war with eachother...
One thing i'd like to definately change is this "addiction" to the war on terrorisim. This is not something that can directly be defeated and the sooner this administration realises it the better. You can only defend and prepare against it, even if/when Al Queada is completely hunted down (probaly never) terrosism will still exist.
One thing i'd like to point out about Kerry and the 'war on terrosisim', is that he couldnt possibly do a better job at something that Bush completely defined in the first place during the 4 weeks after 9/11. Another thing 'Change', even though its the same administration yet again I dont want to see the same shitty mistakes and blunders from the last 4 years.
Depressed, angry, hoping for a miracle. I just don't understand how people can vote for a man who obviously lied to them about so many things? How can we be so ignorant? Where did we go wrong? I'm also scared that the democrats now have zero representation. The conservatives control all three branches. I just don't feel like I have a voice anymore. I've lost almost all faith I had in America. That said, can I move in with any Canadians here?

I couldn't have said it better. You know what I saw on the news networks this morning? MSNBC and Fox News actually had forums of American voters on their morning shows. These forums actually stated that there was a general consensus that the Democratic Party is out of touch with the American people.......... What the f---? My jaw hit the floor. What these people don't realize is that the Neo-Cons in Washington have shifted the political spectrum in this country so far to the right: many Republicans are more like Democrats and vice versa while the extreme right controls Washington. I mean remember the days when Democrats were labeled as extremists who believe in big government and lack of fiscal responsibility? Now, we have the Republicans who are running up a deficit with a government that gets bigger and bigger costing more money everyday. I'll be waiting in the shadows to say, "I f---ing told you so!" to all those who made the choice for Bush.
The outlook is good in that I'll get laid a lot in the next 4 years. Other than that, I have no idea whatsoever.
I"m just glad we didn't have to wait two weeks to find out who the president is
I'm probably gonna get raked over the coals and have my brains served to me on a dirty spit-filled platter for saying this, but:
I actually like Bush.
Now, obviously neither of the options is perfect, and they both leave a lot to be desired. But, if Kerry was in office with us in a war situation, I'd be afraid for our safety. He doesn't seem to be a good commander-in-chief, and his character, I think, leaves something to be desired.
I'm a Christian, and so Bush seems like a much stronger Christian to me. Kerry isn't willing to put his Christian views into the political light, because he says he doesn't want to involve his personal beliefs, when in fact every decision a president makes is part of his personal beliefs. I'm pro-life and anti-gay-marriage too, so Bush is a clear cut choice to me.

LOL :D You won't get raked over the coals.......60 million other Americans liked him too on election night. Everyone's opinions are respected here.
Fuck ya'll.
Bush is the better canidate and the American people have spoken.
Peace down, A-Town up.
A-Town? You're not from Atlanta, you fuck.
Not that I'm saying anything bad about the administrators, but all ichi ban did was put a one word post. Two people just used the f word. Shouldn't they be rebuked or warned or something?

We do not allow spamming.
Someone awhile back wrote a string of profanity, and an administrator said that no offensive language was allowed, or something like that.

Like I said.............the American people have spoken. Bush is NOT the better candidate in my opinion, but the people have made it clear who they are and what their nation is.

Most likely this was because of excess swearing, in small amounts is fine.

It's not the language..............it is the INTENTIONS behind the language chosen that comes into issue on this forum............NMN just wants to keep the quality of the posts substantial.............
On that issue, it was in response to a joke from a member who I KNOW was joking.
Now, I apologize if you took it at face value. It was not meant to be as such. Inside jokes are hard sometimes.
Thanks for bringing it up, though, neoizcool. Keep up the astuteness.
Anyone wins, the winner will claim to do this and do that. Well, talk is cheap. I don.t know whether what Bush promise to do will do it.
What the hell happened? The people of the United States have lost their **expletive deleted** minds. The System of Checks and Balances has been totally destroyed and "America" is on collision course with the rest of the world. God have mercy on our souls....
Anyway... the United States was founded on the idea of freedom for all. Apparently that excludes gays and anyone else that doesn't fit the Evangelical way of life.
I only hope that the American people will realize that we need to have a separation of church and state. Marriage is a religious institution and should not be controlled by the government. Civil unions on the other hand are a creation of the government and as such can be changed and defined however the government sees fit.
The majority of citizens that voted for W. voted against there own economic salvation as well as the education of their children. The schools in the United States are on a downard spiral and the "No Child Left Behind" plan actually takes money away from schools that need extra funding. Bush is going destroy everything this country stands for. He is going to continue putting people that we know from school and possibly our friends and family in harms way in order to complete his holy crusade. But people decided to ignore the fact that Bush has lied to us so many times. There was no smoking gun in Iraq as there was in Cuba (Cuban missile crisis). We went there because, "let's not forget this is the man that tried to kill a former president." That former president was George Sr.
Bush was not the better candidate.
Honestly, if I was eligible to vote in this past election, I would have voted for Bush.
I do not agree with many things he has done, including going into Iraq, but I feel that it would have been a mistake to change leaders in the middle of all this. The Patriot Act I feel is an infringment on individual right of privacy, and the "No Child Left Behind"? HA! Children get left behind all the time in school. Most of the time its their choice. I also have a hard time voting for someone who represnts a party that supports abortion. In my opinion, abortion should be reserved for cases of rape. But that's not the topic, so back to it:
I don't think that either one of them was the better canididate. It was like voting for tweedle-dee or tweedle-dumb. But, Bush is back in office, and all I can do about it is cross my fingers and hope he doesn't do anything too stupid in the next four years. And when its over I'll say, "I don't like what Bush did, but no one can prove that Kerry could've done better because he wasn't elected. Period."
We can speculate what would happen if Kerry would've gotten it, but no proof can be shown.
I'm just going to ride it out with my fingers crossed and wait for the next election:
Arnold Schwarzenegger (this would require a constitutional amendment) vs. Hillary Clinton :)
Ichi ban, what a coincidence! Me and my friends were just talking about that! Ah-nold vs. Hillary. That would be an unvelievable election to watch. Personally, I like the Governator. I think he'd make a fairly good Presidentianator. He couldn't be any worse than Bush.
I think it's time to change the Constitution anyways. That was applicable back then, but not now. Our founding fathers made the Constitution so it could be changed. They didn't mean for it to be set in stone. They foresaw that things would change, and they have, so let's change it.
I'm an American citizen, but I was born overseas. I can't be president. That's not exactly fair to me.

Sigh. Pretty late responding to this, but I was pretty disgusted too at the vote. Even though Kerry had some pretty lame policies, his international policies were sound. Unfortunately Bush won for reasons like lowering inflation and keeping the gun possession law in Texas...and it looks like Micheal Moore may find the next 4 years a mite uncomfortable with him still in power and eager for a shot back at the satirist.
A disturbing thought, though: Bush is now back at it, raising tensions with North Korea and Iran for their nuclear weapon possession. Nothing really eyebrow-raising right now, but I smell a bad deja vu.
I'd suggest living in California, especially in the part of the state most despised by Schwarzenegger before looking at whether or not he'd be a good president. He's not too bad, but not by any means spectacular.

Do you even live in California? It's funny to hear out-of-staters talk highly of Arnold, and they barely have a clue of what he's doing. He actually made some detrimental moves to his governorship over the election. By standing against more than a few propositions that an overwhelming majority voted against his campaign, he lost confidence in more thna few voters, myself included. That won't go over well when he tries to run for governor again.
And on your last line, life's not fair. We all can't do everything we want.
I know someone from California, and he says that most people love Arnold, and one of the main reasons is that he came in when a bad Governor was leaving. Don't yell at me or anything here, it's just what my friend said.
Every politican lies, cheats, and makes mistakes. Please don't go pointing fingers at certain people and saying that somehow someone elses would have been better.
Right now about half of America is pissed that Bush won. And half of America is happy. I realize this is a huge generalization, but please don't bother yelling at me.
If Kerry had won, half would be pissed, but the other way.
Nobody in politics is perfect. It's just a matter of preference and what you would like to see happen in the government. There's no right or wrong here. Bush made some very bad decisions. He will make more. If Kerry had been voted in, he would have made some very bad decisions.

Eh, I jus thought it was funny when Arnold got elected. I live in the midwest (YEEEEHAHHHH! *ahem* sorry) so i don't have anything to say about whether he is good or bad. I just think it'd be funny for the terminator vs. Hillary in the next election.
When will people realize that the only real chance for salvation was with Nader...
When will people realize that the only real chance for salvation was with Nader...
TINM, I have seen many posts from you about Nader..........are you serious? If you are, shame on you. Nader's a nut who managed to alienate himself from his own party this election. If you are not, then.........uh........ha ha ha..........uh....ha. :D
As for Arnold, no f---ing way should he even be CONSIDERED for President. I think America should stick to its rule of citizenship for the presidency. There are many reasons why this rule is important and the importance of these reasons far exceed the simple matter of fairness and equality.
As for those who voted, or would have voted, for Bush, despite disagreeing with his policies, SHAME ON YOU!!!!! Kerry would have been the better choice.
Eh, I jus thought it was funny when Arnold got elected.
hmm...an Austrian getting Presidency in another country...hmm...why does this sound so familiar? :p
oh shit...+2 for smith_fan

No offense, HU.
None taken. Besides, I intent to change Netherlands for the better. After shifting from the extreme left to the nearly extreme right, I'm ready to take on Dutch politics, and will, hopefully soon, be making a difference.
So, if you hear about a murdered Dutch kabinet member, and if the name sounds italian, you'll know when to scrape me off the moderator list :D.
