WASHINGTON, Oct. 20 (UPI) -- Former U.S. President Bill Clinton has set his sights on becoming U.N. secretary-general. A Clinton insider and a senior U.N. source have told United Press International the 56-year-old former president would like to be named leader of the world body when Kofi Annan's term ends early in 2006.

"He definitely wants to do it," the Clinton insider said this week.

A Clinton candidacy is likely to receive overwhelming support from U.N. member states, particularly the Third World. Diplomats in Washington say Clinton would galvanize the United Nations and give an enormous boost to its prestige. But the former president's hopes hang on a crucial question that will not be addressed until after the presidential elections: can he get the support of the U.S. government -- a prerequisite for nomination

I think this would be awesome to have Bill as head of U.N, he would certainly do a better job than that idiot Kofi Annan.

Sweet! But there's no chance in hell if Bush is re elected. I'm not sure why you think Kofi is an idiot, but Clinton would definetly make a good UN head.

There's no chance in hell Clinton would be elected sec-gen of U.N if Bush is re-elected, why ? Dont just say things like that without backing them up. Remember sec-gen position is elected by the members of the U.N.

I have to agree, I don't think he will be the leader of the UN. I can't honestly see any US president (current or ex) leading the largest peace organisation in the world.

Well, at least both of them are literate. If you feel that they are dumb, either provide evidence that they are unable to speak, or provide evidence that they have an IQ under the norm.

Alternatively, this thread is not about Bush or Kofi Annan. Also, a brief survey of his biography showed that Annan is fluent in English, French and several African languages, and has a vast understanding of economics and global politics. This man is not dumb, neither is he unintelligent.

I hope I have disproved the statements that Kofi Annan is dumb. If not, create a thread and prove your point there. Any more '***** is dumb'-posts in this thread will be deleted.

On another matter, Clinton has been doing a lot of lobbying and a lot of philantropic word, so I think he might get the job. In regards to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, I believe Clinton might be a good choice because of his earlier peace-talks with both parties.
