Champions League 2004/2005

smith_fan

voilá...I watched some Champions League games yesterday. ManU - Fenerbahce (6:2), Bayern Munich - Ajax Amsterdam (4:0) and Real Madrid - AS Rom (4:2)

That was a very entertaining evening with lots of goals... ;)

here are the group statistics: http://www.uefa.com/competitions/ucl/Standings/index.html

So, any predictions? Who's going to win the Champions League this year?
CliveTheBum

I'd put my money on Real Madrid to be honest. They play really well.
mazman

If I had my way, it would be Chelsea, but I don't think they're gonna do it, they just can't function as a team. Who's your team SF? Interesting discussion here we come...

nah. Leverkusen already kicked Real's asses (they won 3:0)... :p

this could also be a description of Real. Money isn't everything fortunately...

hmm...I don't yet know since my favourite team isn't there anyway

However I'll support local team Werder Bremen (but they'll lose anyway) :p...when they're out I'll root for Arsenal London.
mazman

Its Chelsea v. Porto tonight. No TV coverage AGAIN so I'll have to settle for the internet.

I reckon Arsenal are gonna win it. They havn't lost a game yet in the English Premiership for over a year now, they just seem invincible. Now THERE'S a team!

Chelsea played good! Especially the first goal was great...

Well, Arsenal...lol...they seemed to be a bit snotty after the first half of the game. 1:1 is quite bad... :wtf: Poor Arsene Wenger...
mazman

Hey yeah! 3-1 is pretty good! Epecially since Morinho used to manage Porto. This is known in football fokelore as: "The immutable law of the X". This also applies when a player scores against his old club.

1-1 is a very bad result against a team like Rosenborg! I guess it just wasn't their night.

hahaha, better than losing to them 3-2 like Maccabi Haifa... Haifa played in the UEFA cup tonight and lost 2-0 to unknown Dnipro and are now out. I don't know where that came from. We're worth more than that.

Maccabi Tel Aviv were never serious contenders for the Champions League title but I'll be incredibly impressed if they manage to finish third and manage to do good things in the UEFA cup. We're currently placed third after losing to Bayern and Juventus by less goals than Ajax :p We're playing Ajax in three weeks time I think and hopelessly optimistic as I am, I believe we can win. At least Maccabi Tel Aviv may save our good name this year. Maccabi Haifa has been disgraceful.

I've got absolutely no idea who else to go for in the Champions League. Lets say... Inter?

I'm sorry for you, FYM. I'm sure it could have been better, actually I hoped that Tel Aviv would beat Bayern...oh well :wtf:

correct...UEFA Cup.

3 german teams are in the 2nd round - Stuttgart, Schalke and Aachen. Aachen is actually playing in our 2nd league so I'm surprised they managed to win.
smith_fan

a new Champions League round...here are the results:

Liverpool (0) - (0) Deportivo de La Coruña
Juventus (1) - (0) Bayern Munich
Sparta Prague (0) - (0) Manchester United
Ajax (3) - (0) Maccabi Tel Aviv
Fenerbahce (1) - (3) Lyon
Monaco (2) - (1) Olympiakos
Bayer Leverkusen (3) - (1) AS Roma
Real Madrid (1) - (0) Dinamo Kiev

it's lookin' good for Leverkusen :)

Maccabi Tel Aviv finally wins... 2-1 against Ajax. This doesn't really mean anything. It might give us a slim chance of getting into the UEFA cup but what's most important is that we won't finish this tourament with 0 points and 0 goals...

Manchester had a great win over Sparta... lots of goals and a surprising amount of suspense... it finshed 4-1. Did you guys watch any other games?
mazman

Oh yes! Chelsea 1 - 0 CSK Moscow

Did you guys see the goal??? :D :D :D

Thats 4 wins out of 4. Onwards and upwards, Mr Mourinho...
smith_fan

all german teams are in the 2nd round...good! And I think all british teams too. Come on, Werder Bremen, I know you can win! ;)
freeyourmind

Congratulations to the Germans amd Brits... unfortunately Maccabi finished last just like everybody predicted, but at least they didn't get humiliated like they feared and managed to give Juventus their only draw so far. The game was played in garbage time but Juventus brought all the big names and were apparantely still intent on winning, so I guess it still counts as some sort of achievement. I can't say I watched the game - watching Maccabi's games pisses me off lately for some reason. They manage to be the underdogs without being likeable.
smith_fan

I'm looking forward to see Bayern - Arsenal. Hehe...could be funny from my perspective since in Germany everyone talks about the war between Kahn and Lehmann and who's the better keeper.... :p
mazman

Lehmann can't even get a first team place in Arsenal's side anymore. Instead they seem to have plumped for Almunia - an even more ricketty goalie.

Well...I trust Arsene Wenger. He's the best coach on this planet ;)
mazman

Over the line? My arse.
smith_fan

nah nah...I'm so glad Chelsea is out...! :D
sm4113r

Yeah, me too. I'm so glad Chelsea's out!

Oh wait, Liverpool's in the final?

Ok, now I'm sad again.
mazman

Liverpool are gonna get slaughtered. At least Chelsea would have had a chance.

nah...Milan scores only 1 or 2 goals per game...they play like every other Italian team - boring!

I hope Liverpool wins.

ok, ok.... :D

BUT Milan was too arrogant... :)
DonDaddy

I hate the fact that all the championship type of games seem to come down to PK's.
eRider

DonDaddy

I dont see why it wouldnt be legal. People post stuff like that all over the place all the damn time.
