Did u know??? Black people's right to vote...

Niva

I thought I may share an email I recieved, n did furhter research on it.
Here's my email...
Below you will find a speech that Bill Cosby's wife gave at a function.
Everyone please read this and pass it on to as many African Americans you come in contact with.
Camille Cosby just made a reference about the Voting Rights Act in her most recent open letter on racism. This is extremely important.

We are quickly approaching the 21st Century and we were wondering, and when I say 'we', I mean others of us out there who wonder if everyone else out there knows what the significance of the year 2007 is to Black America?

Did you know that our right to VOTE will expire in the year 2007? Seriously! The Voters Rights Act signed in 1965 by Lyndon B. Johnson was just an ACT. It was not made a law.

In 1982, Ronald Reagan amended the Voters Rights Act for another 25 years. Which means that in the year 2007 we could lose the Right to vote!

Does anyone realize that African Americans are the only group of people who require PERMISSION under the United States Constitution to vote! In the year 2007, Congress will once again convene to decide whether or not Blacks should retain the rights
to vote (crazy but true).

In order for this to be passed, 38 states will have to approve an
extension. This is ludicrous! Not only should the extension be
approved, but also the ACT must be made a law. Our right to vote should no longer be up for discussion, review and/or evaluation.
We must contact our Congress-persons, Senators, Alderpersons, etc., to put a stop to this! As bona fide Citizens of the United States, we
cannot "drop the ball" on this one! We have come too far to let government make us take such a huge step backward. So please, let us push forward to continue to build the momentum towards gaining equality.

Please pass this onto others, as we are sure that many more individuals are not aware of this. I urge all of you that are able, to contact those in government that have your vote and make them aware of our combined concern for this issue.

One voice!...... One Vote! You cannot complain, if you do not
participate.....local, State, & national.....

Now this is what I found over the internet about this topic.
-->Did u know??? (http://www.emergingminds.org/feb03/diduknow.html)

The point I posted this up was to show how rumors gets around. Before u start beliving in something u have to reasearch it.
Haxxor

We should all have green colored skin, that way, their would be no segragation or racism. Or, we could just all become blind, and use our other senses to live by. Racism is bad. VERY BAD. KILL ALL RACISM!!!!

And remember, EAT LOTS OF PIZZA!!!!
Freddy Krueger

that's realy bad

what's next, making slavery legal again

the shoudn't even be a problem, just allowed everyone (when they have the correct age) to vote and do what they whant to do

Did u guys go to the link???
freeyourmind

I read the link. Didn't understand a word of it, but I understand what it wasn't... good point, though I'd say that proper research would involve more than just searching the internet - it would require intensive studying and searching. People can't get majorly pissed off with things if they don't make the effort to enquire, even if it's a rather big effort...

Good stuff. lmao.
ThereIsNoMatrix

Ha, I did. That's funny. Don't you love chain mail?
Niva

I hate chain mail. I just think that things like will cause alot of problem if people like FYM said do research it correctly. So if u want u can search for a better resource.....
I just wanted to post that here as I mentioned before, rumors gets easily started.
Here's another site that I found that may be useful-->Right to Vote (http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/weekly/aa120298.htm)
Valasher

Well, I wouldn't worry too much about it. The problem really is, that in the past we've had nothing but white men as our leaders in government, most of whom are racist (whether they deny it or not), with women only being added in the last... I don't even know how many years, I would guess 40 or less. But trust me, if the right for black people (that is politically correct, right?) to vote is taken away because something expires, it will be corrected.
MacLeod

I was wondering about that too Val. Government is definitely all about faulty laws, and each year they spend lots of time amending lots of them. The world and America of today is vastly different from that of before, and seeing the standards of living among both white and black today I'm guessing it'll just be a 'oops! quick, fix that!' situation in Parliament soon, with the obligatory scathing tabloid comment.
freeyourmind

Guys, read the link... it's bogus! It's a false rumour...
Steppenwolfe

Niva. Thank you for that information. I had long sought for it. I knew that it was to expire some time, but wasn't exactly sure of when it was supposed to happen. I haven't yet read the link, but I will. I'm sorry, but if something crazy like slavery happens again. I'm going to go out with a bang. I won't be forced into serving someone or that indentured servants bullshit. I'd have to go down fighting. MLK jr. You wouldn't approve, but Malcolm X rides strong in the blood. By any means necessary. I'd have to choose violence over non-violence. I know that's probably what some people would want, but I'd have to give it to them just like they wanted. I'd resist and resist.

Though I'm not sure slavery would come back into effect. But it could.

Anything's possible.

As for this. I'm going to just wonder and vote and try and influence all the people I can to put a person into office that will renew the right to vote for the african american race. That should work into getting it renewed and made into a law. If not.. I'm leaving the US.

HOWEVER! I did run across a site that says the right to vote will never expire.

Thats why u had to go to the link n read it.
Its a chain letter thats going around. I just wanted to clear it up.
UT

These are the times when idiots make crazy/insulting/racsist petitions online (eg: Let Tammy Faye Baker be President, Free O.J Simpson) and they float around the net whether it be in active or cache format forever. Chain letter, petition, voting forms. Bah. Bloody rubbish it is.
Valasher

I just got one a couple weeks ago that told me to 'write in' Mel Gibson for President on my vote in the upcoming election. What the fuck?!
