Helios the opening ceremony is on now, started about an hour ago. Eon The opening ceremony started 17 hours ago. What you'll be having is replays. Niva I've been watching the olympics, n I have to say they r freeakin awesome. My favorite events r swimming, gymnastics, diving, B-ball, track n field, boxing n more that r not in my head right now, lol. Eon The only thing I'm really paying attention to is the Swimming, just to see Thorpe blow his old records again. DPD I've been watching a lot of the Olympics, but the coverage here in the US pretty much sucks. NBC is only covering US teams, or the US's fiercest competitors, and our commentators all really suck ass. They're all very negative toward almost all of the athletes, not just to the non-US athletes. I watched the synchronized diving, when the Greek men pulled off the gold, and I thought that was really cool since it was Greece's first diving medal I believe, and the Greek men got into the Olympics based on merit, rather than on the automatic home country berth. Also, the Chinese women team who won the 10m platform synchronized diving were right on with each other the whole time, it was quite a wonderful display. Japan's men's gymnastics team really deserved that medal, because they were the most solid all-around team, and the Americans did really poor on rings and vault. Same with the women's; Romania made no major mistakes and completely deserved it, pulling away from the field with an all-around team effort on all four events, but they really locked it up with their floor exercise performances. Who saw the 4x200m freestyle relay this evening (on taped delay in the US)? Of course, me being from the US, I was biased, but it was an excellent race, one of the best I've seen in a while. Thorpe had a beautiful dive and came back from 1.5 seconds down on the last leg of the race to close the final margin of vitory for the Americans to .13 seconds, which is nothing in a 7 minute race. I seriously thought the Aussies were gonna take it, because they had the best dives, but Klete Keller, the American swimmer, had better turns than Thorpe, which allowed him to keep the lead against the world record holder at 200m. I was also amazed when the US men beat Croatia in water polo as time expired, they've been doing pretty well so far. Croatia has always been one of the better men's teams as long as I can remember, so that was a big vitory for the Americans. There's more to talk about Olympically, but I'll stop boring everyone. It's been interesting to me so far. freeyourmind Well, the last olympics for me were way better. I was in Australia at the time and they had much better coverage than they do here. Probably they're a nation more interested in sports. So far the only interesting thing I've managed to see was the 200m freestyle. That was great stuff. It's funny to see Thorpe as the old guy and Phelps as the young one :D It was great to see Thorpe avenge his defeat last olympics... The Israelis have never been too good at the olympics, but this time there's a bigger chance than ever that we'll get our first gold medal... Watch out for names like Andy Ram and Yoni Erlich in the tennis doubles, Arik Zeevi in the 100kg judo, Alex Aburboch in the pole vault, Gal Freedman in the Mistrel (at least that's what they call it here, something to do with surfboards :p ), a hard to spell name, Goocha Zichiashwilli (or something along those lines) in 84kg Greek-Roman Wrestling, and possibly Maya Arusi in 49kg Taekwando. Andy Ram and Yoni Erlich will be playing in 40 minutes in the quarter final. Wish us luck :D You guys have any favourite athletes? HomoUniversalis Hmm.. I only watch Judo, and the stuff you see there is not much different from what you see on the tournaments I go to (save for the amount of unjustified black belts). Nah, I have given up on the martial arts within the olympics, and that's the only sports I am interested in :). Mr U MacLeod I guess I didn't see much; just the badminton section, where we (Ron Susilo) won the strongest usual team China but got defeated today by Thailand, just 8 players away from the Gold! Ah well, 9 is a good enough number as any. freeyourmind Haha, well, HU, maybe you should check out Arik Zeevi tommorow in the 100k judo. He's our most serious contender for gold and he's supposed to have an interesting style. Give it a shot, c'mon! Mac, no serious contenders from S'pore? I don't know what's going on with the tennis doubles right now. It's not on any of the tv channels I have access too. Bah, maybe I was wrong and they won't play until later on today. Stupid tv. smith_fan I didn't know that the germans were so good at Judo..lol.. I'm watching it right now. 4 different channels show almost all competitions. We have 4 gold medals which is average, it could be better but our cycling team lost unfortunately. China has lots of good athlets, as well as the US and Australia. The opening ceremony was great btw - the greeks are good hosts. One thing I noticed while I was watching swimming competitions - Ian Thorpe is hot! :D Eon Meh, he's OK, but he needs a nose job thats for sure. FYM, yes, we are a very sporting nation in general, but to be perfectly honest with you, right now I have no clue as to what's happening in the rest of the word apart from the Games in Greece and I'm getting tired of it. freeyourmind Woohoo! Arik Zeevi just won the Bronze medal! He could probably have managed the gold too if he didn't slip up with the Korean no one considered as a serious contender. Ah well, bronze is still historic when you're talking about Israel... celebrate with me! Eon, getting tired of the olympics or getting tired of being disconnected from the world? Because if it's the latter to tell the truth I don't think things are much different for me either... what I know about what happens in the rest of the world I know from the internet, not from the tv and papers :p smith_fan tennis men's Doubles Semifinal is on TV, we defeated the Israeli team yesterday and I'm confident of another victory :p freeyourmind ye bastards. Apparantely there were no cameras filming the game. I can't believe I didn't even see them play! smith_fan ye bastards. Apparantely there were no cameras filming the game. I can't believe I didn't even see them play! there were cameras, I've seen it. And we've won again! woohoo...final :p freeyourmind did you see the game against the Israelis or just the semi-final now? Anyway, good luck. If you win the tournament it would give a good excuse as to why we didn't get passed you... :P smith_fan did you see the game against the Israelis or just the semi-final now? Anyway, good luck. If you win the tournament it would give a good excuse as to why we didn't get passed you... :P I've seen the game against the Israelis, just a summing-up but anyhow. Now let's hope we get our fifth gold medal :D mazman Yaay! Kelly Holmes - latest in Brits gold medal-fest. Well, "fest" by our standards! freeyourmind Haha, Mazman, you'd laugh if you knew what's getting Israel excited now... we've won a bronze medal in Judo and now have promised a medal in mistrel racing (it'll probably be a silver) and the country's going crazy. The mistrel will be the sixth medal in our history... freeyourmind Gold medal. Haha. Mauahaha. Bamuahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!! Gold medal in Mistral. First in history. Booyah! smith_fan Gold medal. Haha. Mauahaha. Bamuahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!! Gold medal in Mistral. First in history. Booyah! ya, I know...I've watched it. congratulations. I'm still angry at our women's football team...they played so fucking bad.. Psycho ya, I know...I've watched it. congratulations. I'm still angry at our women's football team...they played so fucking bad.. GASP! Could that be our Smith_Fan using such dirty language?! I watched syncronized diving, beach volleyball :D, diving, long jump, and soccer (Football to everyone not in the US). The basketball team was disgraceful this year though... freeyourmind GASP! Could that be our Smith_Fan using such dirty language?! I watched syncronized diving, beach volleyball :D, diving, long jump, and soccer (Football to everyone not in the US). The basketball team was disgraceful this year though... Haha, what's pathetic is that even in it's pathetic form the US team is going to wipe the floor with every team and get a gold medal... how does that figure? :p Freddy Krueger hehe to all people that are from a country that has won a medal on the olympics. congratulations smith_fan Schade Holland, alles ist vorbei! Lol! We've won, we've won....muahaaaahahaaaaaaa! mazman Did you see the 200m? It was ridiculous!!! The crowd were making so much of a booing noise that the race was delayed because the runners couldnt hear the starter! Eon That's disgusting, I have nothing against Greeks in general, hell I go to school with several hundred of them, but that sort of behavior is uncalled for and completely unnecessary. And I agree Freddy, congrats to all countries, whether you won 25 medals or none. smith_fan exactly...this behaviour was completely unfair and ridiculous. How can they still support an athlet who betrays his own country and the other athlets? They shouted "Kenteris, Kenteris"... freeyourmind Yeah, I think that in general the anti-American attitude was disgraceful. I noticed this most like you said in the 200m and the basketball games... they looked like they were gonna lynch them any minute! I forgot to say thanks for the congratulations Smithfan... you actually watched it? Lmfao. That kicks ass. Well, last night another Israeli medal hope amounted to nothing in the pole vault... ah well, this is still our best ever olympics. The US lost to Argentina!!! Serves them right! Some justice still exists in the world. mazman Yeah so much for the "Dream Team" in basketball. Plus did you see the moron that ran out into the Brazillian in the marathon? Where was the security??? Eon The runner deserved the sportsman of the Olympics award (or whatever the hell it's called), that attack caused him to miss out on the gold, I would have murdered the son of a bitch of someone threw me off the track. I hear the Brazillian governmant is calling for him to be given the gold though. smith_fan Yeah so much for the "Dream Team" in basketball. Plus did you see the moron that ran out into the Brazillian in the marathon? Where was the security??? It was the same moron who was once running around the Formula 1 circuit...he's mentally ill UT This time around I've been so bloody slack. I am ashamed to say I haven't kept up with how our country is going at all. I actually feel like an ass for it too. Right, now I'm going to turn on the TV, and play catchup while the little ones are all asleep. See you guys in a few.;) Eon We came forth overall, we were third but Russia came up out of nowhere in the last couple of days, we won 17 gold, beating our Sydney record and took the velodrome by storm completely unexpectedly winning 6 gold there. Our mens swimmers did shit all, except Thorpie, naturally, but the chicks did well. I think that about sums it all up. smith_fan Rank Country Gold Silver Bronze Total 1 United States 35 39 29 103 2 China 32 17 14 63 3 Russia 27 27 38 92 4 Australia 17 16 16 49 5 Japan 16 9 12 37 6 Germany 14 16 18 48 7 France 11 9 13 33 8 Italy 10 11 11 32 9 South Korea 9 12 9 30 10 Great Britain 9 9 12 30 voilą...the medal table...;) mazman Yaaay! Tenth! What an achievement! Thank you and goodnight! smith_fan well...I can say, at least we're better than France and the best european country :p CliveTheBum I'm European.. Go Great Britian!!.... lol :D Double A I'm Greek,so I would just like to thank you for having such a big thread for an event that takes place in my country. Now this might not be very intresting, but I ran as a torchman(I think this is the right word in english),and some of my friends actually work there too! mazman That is actually very cool Double A :) CliveTheBum Very cool and interesting... I pay special attention to the Taekwondo in the Olympics... Very special attention. :) PP The runner deserved the sportsman of the Olympics award (or whatever the hell it's called), that attack caused him to miss out on the gold, I would have murdered the son of a bitch of someone threw me off the track. I hear the Brazillian governmant is calling for him to be given the gold though. ok, so I'm the big jerk here because I don't watch TV at all... sooo, what happened? Personally, I prefer the winter olympics. Who can resist a good game of Ice Hockey!? :D (and Curling is an olympic sport now, isn't it? w00t! And bobsledding.. .:D ) Eon I won't be able to explain it very well so have a look here hun.
