Mabey this has been talked about, a long time ago. but i don't know so i'll post this
after Neo destroyed Smith, the 2 agents looked at each other (scarred) and ran away
that i find weird, there programs, they don't have emotions. so they shoudn't of been scarred and just attack
but instead they where afraid and ran for it. now that isn't very program like ?
what do you people think ?
Well, their program is based on the rules of the system. Neo just broke the rules, so the machines decided that the Agents couldn't win against Neo, and ordered them off. That's also probably why there were upgrades in Reloaded; the machines believed all they needed to do was upgrade their programs. Unfortunatly for the machines, they still had to base the agents on the rules and Neo could still defeat them.
Or maybe they got some human traits??? Love, fear, hate.
Love came from Sati's parents.
Fear came from the Agents who ranaway.
Hate came from Agent Smith he hated Neo.
Those r all human traits. They r side by side the humans who r connected to the Matrix. Maybe there's glitch that made the programs get the human emotion.
Or am I way off???
I think Kara was more on target. The other agents shouldn't be displaying human emotions, or the whole system would be glitched. It's just those few rogue programs (Sati, Smith, Oracle, etc.). The agents at the end of M1 most likely didn't run off in fear.
Correct, but we may also just be seeing a facet of fear. What is fear? A very compounded, emotional form of self-preservation, namely that 'we're screwed'. That's mainly the impression they gave me. Their eyebrows didn't rise or something but they definitely looked like they just wanted to be somewhere else at that moment.
Let's look at it logically. If one were to design a Matrix, a grand system that inhabits millions, and we design the perfect killing machine, that can jump grand distances, dodge bullets, walk walls and is a master and martial combat, and has the ability to go almost anywhere he wishes to go instantly, and which, above all, can't die, do we give something like that a self-preservation system? Personally, I doubt it. I doubt they made the programs so complex that they could recognise when another program had the potential of destroying theirs. After all, this only happens when the one get's pissed off.
No, I believe that the Architect was watching and that he wanted to make sure that the two agents did not get hurt as well. He simply called them off. I believe other explanations would be too complex and require too much knowledge for the machines forehand. Is it so hard to believe that the machines underestimated the power of the one?
After all, they did it again in M2, as TINM put so truthfully...

Also, one should keep in mind that the script was written by the Wachowski brothers. Every director/screenwriter has their own sort of style, which is what causes all those nice little tidbits to appear in the background of a scene. The Wachowski brothers have their own style, and their own idea of what little tidbits should go into their films. For example, the two window washers outside the office at the beginning of M1, or the falling of wall tiles from the pillar after the lobby shootout scene had passed its climax, or the sprinklers all coming on and drenching the Agents after the bomb went off at the bottom of the elevator shaft. The idea of the two Agents looking at one another, then heading for the high road, was probably moreso a simple tidbit given life by the style the Wachowski brothers use in their scripts and films.
This is, of course, not to say that the idea that the Architect called the Agents off isn't what happened. However, I do feel that the Agents do indeed possess some level of emotion; throughout the first two films, we see them express, for the most part, indifference or anger/irritation/annoyance. Also keep in mind that, based on what the Oracle told Neo about Exiles and how they come to be in the Matrix does indeed prove that the programs from the Machine world DO have an idea of self-preservation, which namely means that the idea of being destroyed/deleted is not particularly pleasent to them. It could be this sense of self-preservation that made the last two Agents run, but it very well could have been the Architect calling them off.
Additionally, keep in mind that the Agents were fearless 99% of the time mostly because they were always dealing with things they, and their creator, had dealt with many times before with little trouble, so there would be no need to fear them. Neo was NOT something the Agents had ever dealt with before. The usual reaction to seeing something you've never seen before that is quite an obvious threat to your very existence is, for the most part, to leave it alone and go in the other direction until you can find out more about it, and thus know more about how to deal with it. When Neo kicked Smith down the hall, Smith showed fear, not necessarily fear of being destroyed, but rather fear of the idea that Neo, a mere human, was far superior to his top-notch programming. Smith stood his ground, despite his obvious disadvantage, because he is not programmed to simply run away. When Neo jumped into Smith, the other two Agents stepped back, not out of fear but out of caution. In short, their body language didn't speak "HOLY SHIT," but spoke "What the f%ck...?"
Then, when Smith exploded, and Neo stood unscathed (save for the bullet holes in his body from Smith's "tough love"), the Agents were presented with something they had never seen before. They had no clue what it was, nor how it happened, but they knew damn well that (assuming they were equals to Smith in capability) if Smith couldn't stop it, they sure as hell couldn't. Was it fear that made them run?
In this aspect, I would say it was far more likely a simple matter of common sense. Agents, while undoubtedly persistent, do not seem to be of the stupid caliber.
HOWEVER...given the fact that the Agents are indeed the type to follow orders to the letter, they may very well have wanted to turn and run, but couldn't have done so until ordered to do so.
So, in closing, I would say that the Agents probably wanted to run after they saw Smith's destruction, but wouldn't have done so until ordered by the Architect.
Whoa. A very wordy account, but very well spoken. A new powerposter! Well...not so new. You've just about nailed all there is to the question Foxx. Well done!
hummm yeah good info redd.
mabey they ran away because they knew they coudn't win. and whanted to survive them selfs
I don't have much time right now to post, but I'll say that AI has an automative response triggered by a set of perameters that constitutes a sense of danger. When neo leapt into smith, it set off a trigger that the architect must have designed in them when he created the 6th matrix. It was saved inside them so that they would perserve themselves when the One found his powers.

I don't think this had nessesarly been fear. They could have runed away so they would not be destroyed like Smith did, which would be bad for the Matrix.Their mission is to care for the Matrix, and this is what they did.
Although, bad programs can feel emotions too.For example:In #1,Smith gets ANGRY with Neo,when he breaks his sunglasses. In #2,Persephone gets JEALOUS.In #3,the Merovingian is AFRAID to die.
Right on point there Redd. And yes.. You do look like Mouse. But, also. When the agents fight, and do different things. To be such things devoid of emotion, they certainly showed much of it. Rage facial expressions while fighting. And distaste, they always weren't able to pull of the blank emotionless face of Keanu. I think they may mimic the emotion, but not feel it.
1. mac- you are what i call a "gottareplytothemall" kinda person, you post a reply to a person, even when you really have nothing to say, sometimes it is because the poster wants to "get big" and have a lot of posts. but im not gonna accuse you of that because i dont know you.
2. i think that the agents knew that theyre has to be a balance in the matrix in order for things to work. so when they saw neo die, they basicly knew they were done for.

Goody. I'm glad we're not quick to make false accusations then.

well, im just saying, that i looked at his posts on his profile and he has about an average of 7 words per post, thats all, and they all say, good thinking, or i agree with you, or hmm...interesting....so i wouldnt call that a false accusation
You must have searched the wrong Macleod then, lol.
well after looking at his posts again, i retract my statement, and would personaly like to apologise to macleod for saying that, because it was wrong and i am very sorry
