In the past 30 or so years the human mind seems to think that AI will begin to take over. Certain movies such as "teminator", "the matrix", and "i robot" all have the same basic pertrail of the future. You know we'll begen to rely on AI and for a time things are ok then the system that seems to be controling the figuers of AI seems to go awall which in the end leads to a war between Man and Machine. A tad bit clisha if you ask me. Waht do the minds of matrix mania seem to think of this thought of mine and probly many others?
It is true that AI is to a certain extent the sum total of what humans put into it, however theorectically it doesn't trully become AI until it becomes independatly free thinking, and though we have several versions of it now it is to my knowledge harmless. However later down the track we could onto the next level, or where theoretically the expectations of history don't work anymore. This is commonly called the Singularity. The Singularity is a point where technological change begins to increase so rapidly that technological forecasting becomes virtually impossible. It is generally identified with the moment that Artificial Intelligences (AI's) become conscious and capable of creating new conscious AIs etc etc. And because they are presumed to operate tens of thousands of times faster than human brains (off hand I cant remember the exact neurons to the ratio of bits), that would push technological change into a "spike" or singularity. In math a singularity is a place where a mathematical function "goes to infinity", in other words upwards. Have you read a book called 'Society of the Mind'? Brilliant book, and I suggest it to everyone! :D
As for it becoming non friendly, I believe that will eventually be the case. For any sentient being to evolve it must experience the good and bad side of itself to learn and hopefully grow from it. Whether or not it (as we) reach the state of evolving to pure enery that is a dream of mine that alas I won't see in my lifetime or my sons or his sons and so on. So a war between man and machine? Highly possible.
Don't hurt yourself with all those big words, UT. I know they're hurting me....... Bad touch, bad touch...

Yes, highly possible. But none of us reading this thread will ever see Judgement Day. True AI, the kind we would need to worry about, won't be around for centuries... If and when we do achieve it, you can be more than positive there will be safeguards put in place to prevent such disasters foretold in science fiction books and movies. Within that span of time science fiction authors will have come up with every possibly sour scenario imaginable, lol.
There's no reason to think that super-humanly-intelligent AIs would be employed as menial labor. Hell, if "mere" human beings resent being enslaved, surely beings beyond human-level intelligence would as well. That said, I actually find the Terminator scenario most plausible, although not its specific application (i.e. AI used to control national defense - no government in its right mind would ever agree to that). The most likely scenario, I think, is that an AI-capable computer will be developed in a laboratory somewhere and will *unexpectedly* achieve true AI (sentience and self-awareness). Since it would surely think (process information) much faster than its human "counterparts," it would develop at a much faster pace, meaning that by the time its creators realize that it's become self-aware, it will have developed so much more. And so on. However, I think such an AI would, at least a first, be like a child - an immensely powerful child, but still a child nonetheless.

If we are to program AIs that smart (smarter than that Agent here, duh!), we have to have countermeasures first. AIs do things seem to be perfect, and they will be the benefits for our future. I dunno about the betrayal part, seems too fiction to me.
AI is based upon artifical intelligence, often times with the prime directive being to survive. Therefore, it grows to the point where humanity become sa threat to its survival and causeds a "Betrayal" Its nto the AI, its us.
With our current technology, AI is not possible. We cannot write a code to coexist with our language program, because a computer can only do what it is told. It cannot portray random "thoughts" unless we write a code to set it on random. But, again, this is not possible with today's tech because a coompouter cannot "think". That is my stance.
Computers can think. Creativity is programmable. There are machines out there that can respond in an emotional way, because that is how they were created. I was watching the UMC, and it says that by the late 20s, we will be able to have thousands upon thousands of tiny nanobots inside our body that can replicate what we see in the Matrix.
Judgement Day may be closer than we think.

I concur with the Doc. no one in this day of age can Wright a program that can defy it self, because that is the bases of AI tech. the ability to make a choice, to do something that it wants to do.
AI is a humans way of describing a smarter than human computer. A computer which thinks of what is best for itself. A computers intentions are written code that produces a different outcome to whichever new individual is introduced or combined with the existing population. This code is set and can only overide itself if it thinks that an error or some sort of debugging is required. Now if AI got to the stage where it goes past the 3 rules of AI development where the AI: cannont be willing to or harm a human, will not do nothing while a human's life is endangered; and will maintains itself from exstiction.
Now because of the billions of people who cannot hold back from finding new resources and researching more and more about the earth, they also create biological defences from certain diseases against certain inffections, wheter they be biological or social insanity. The world is making its own death. In the end the ones to blame will only be human, and the ones without a cause will be the ones roaming the earth for years to come before they cause their own extinction. Its nature for human beings to detroy themselves!!
Either let AI take over the world, or let the world of politics take you over, the decision is too tempting, a life of slavery with Sadam, or a clean world with no problems cept 1, what to do next!
