What does your voice sound like?

I just had a weird thought. I was thinking that we all type here, but some of us do know each other a little better now. I think it would be neat to learn what your voices sound like. Of course it's all a matter of perception, so it's up to your own perception of your own voice. So I'll start, maybe that will give you the idea.

I do not talk loud, have a hard time being audible and I talk somewhat fast because I'm usually nervous (it's just how I am, there's no reason for it), and I sound like the nurse Abby Lockheart on ER (that's the only person I can think of off the top of my head), like a smoker, but with a higher pitched voice. This is the best description I can come up with. Fun right?

I dont really talk much at all. I can often come into a room and no one know Im there for like 15 minutes.

but when I do talk,its not fast or slow. Its sort of like Hyde from that 70's show.

I have no idea how my voice sounds. Well its a little deep, but not Barry White deep. I guess it contains a bit of a Valley boy tone, as I am from and currently live in the Valeey where the term was coined.

I can do many specific impersonations of famous people, as well as certain generic accents from all the world.

Well, I can talk fast, and I can talk slow. Part of my humor lies in the inflection in my voice, a part that is very hard to convey online.

Also, when I am bored, I can make a variety of sounds.

I'm mostly Italian, and both of my parent's families have been living in the Chicago area since they immigrated to America God knows how long ago. My family is the oddball that moved up to Wisconsin. Anyhoo, I got that Chicago accent going on... You know, a sort of cross between a 1930's gangster and those lovable Bear fans on SNL. "Da Bears..."

Most of the time I find myself impersonating one of the multitude of characters played by Will Ferrell. Ferrell's rendition of James Lipton from Inside the Actor's Studio is my favorite. I can also put on some mean British, Irish, and Australian accents.

well i think doing a fat bastard ( from austin powers) is scotish, so i can do a scotish accent and a arabian accent. i can make all kinds of wierd voices and stuff but thoughs are the only ones that sound like a accent. my 10th grade year iam going to take german because that is where my family imagrated from and i thought it would be neat to learn how to speak it. In any case, my voice sounds very much like that kid at school who had a real nice personality, but who you wouldn't talk to, because you didn't like the people he was with. And no, that's not some cryptic message to hide that I have an average voice, no matter how squeeky you may believe it too sound...

As for me, I don't quite know. Depending on mood my voice, actions, and even facial expressions change. I can say I (and a couple of other close friends) am very inspired by the Seinfeld series. In fact, I think I'm one of the last few in my country to like it that much! I've been said to take on many of their features, mainly like Kramer's speaking style, low tone and stiff body language, but when I'm upset I can go high, reaching Jerry and even George's standards. I prefer speaking in deadpan manner, and some say my jokes n comments are delivered much more powerfully that way sometimes.
....And don't remind about Elaine! lol

I got that Indian accent down pat - I can perfectly recite that "Your daughter kick my dog" clip that you've undoubtedly heard floating around the internet. Russian is another one I can do (If I hadn't taken so many Spanish courses before my high school introduced Russian classes, I would probably have taken that as a second language). My next door neighbors are from the South, so I always tease them putting on that accent. The only thing I can do with a French accent is their signature laugh, you know the one. Pepe Le Pieu and every stereotypical French guy in a movie is obliged to laugh in that manner.

I definitely have a high male voice. If I had to compare it with someone's voice we all might know, then I would say Matthew Broderick, only with a bit more gusto-manliness thrown in. I am pursuing graduate studies in vocal performance so needless to say my voice is very loud and expressive. I am a tenor, so I get to do those fun opera roles like Pavarotti. I'm not sure if many here like opera. I never used to.........it grows on you though. As for accents, I don't think there is one I CAN'T do. God definitely designed my voice for the stage and I am greatful to have it. My only complaint is that often on the phone when talking to a solicitor or ordering a pizza, I get called, "Ma'am" too often. My wife and I have a good laugh about that everytime, if only the one calling me "ma'am" knew how masculinely-manly I really am..........YAAAAAWWWWWWP (barbarian-style) :D

Bah, I'm no good at descriptions, and my voice has changed a lot recently obviously but I'll try and give it a shot.
My tone of voice really changes depending on the language I'm speaking. When I lived in Australia I spoke English with a very deep voice, and I had a very strange accent (I've been told it was English/Australian/American/Israeli/Estonian(?) ) and I spoke too fast and was bascially illegible. I really had a difficult time speaking English. From the little I still get to speak now in Israel I speak better, more flowingly, slower (or fast and understandable), and with less of an accent, though it probably still leans more towards some sort of English (as in England :p)
With Hebrew I obviously have always had less of a difficult time. I speak higher than English but my overall voice has become lower lately, usually pretty fast but people understand what I want to say. Only thing is that I have difficulty speaking too loud without shouting, for example like you need to in class. So I shout :D When I just arrived from Australia I had a bit of an accent when speaking Hebrew but now I don't.

Ah, accents I can pull of by myself? I try and pull of Sean Connery's very special Scottish but I'm not too good at it. I do Israeli accents sometimes but what that requires is basically speaking with poor grammar, if I try really hard I can pull off what I hope comes out remotely Australian, but my brother Raiden if he still comes here is the real expert there...

I have a good voice, its deep but not scary......the problem is I cant talk quietly in the back of the class without being heard.....

You could say I sound like Bill from kill bill 2, or some times like Daniel Day-Lewis from gangs of new york.........

Interesting. We had a thread for this in my forum at one stage where everyone made a recording and said hello to their mates in the forum. It was really cool as I found out what 2 of my good mates sounded like (and a few who've offered marriage lol)

I'm not overly talkative, unless I have a fairly strong opinion towards what I am saying or I am around someone I am fairly relaxed with, then I talk a lot.

Archie, FYM, how we worked it in my forum was to get a mic and record our voice. Then we all pretty much re-formatted it into a decent sound file. We had the whole room doing it in the end. I love seeing and hearing the members, and soon I'll make one of my voice. It doesn't matter if you speak english well or not guys! As HU stated, alot of folks who have english as their first language have probs sometimes lol. Let's hear you guys!!!:)

Aye aye, here's a brief tutorial on how to get your sound clip or video clip uploaded on the web. Pick one of the two ways.

1. Go to www.geocities.com or www.members.tripod.com and sign up for a free account. Once you have your account, log in and go to the upload manager (You may have to go to the file manager to access the link to the upload manager). Use the upload manager to upload the sound/video file you made (be patient as it may take a couple minutes to upload the file, especially if you're on dial-up). Once it's uploaded, copy/paste the link of the file over here at the boards. You can find the URL of your file in the file manager.

2. Send me the clip and I'll upload it. ShloppyJoes@msn.com

Yes, a lot exist, have you watched Big Brother lately, I swear they have found everyone they could with a thick Aussie accent and thrown them all in one house, on top of that they are sterotypicaly surfy guys and chicks.

The only thing I can recommend is that you go over to microsoft, and update everything. Than head over to www.ultraplayer.com for a free player that plays everything while saving CPU. You can do everything with it. You still need the Codecs from DivX and WMP, though.

Nah, I'll give my practical analysis: if that speaker set is old thus broken, just buy a new one. It's real cheap depending on what you need. Speakers never need a hardware scan: you just need to know which of the similar ports to plug that damned connector in. On the other hand, if its a sound card prob then you really need to poke around with settings. Check the site of your sound card's for driver updates; but if its Creative (from my country! :D), it should be universal in the first place.
Anyway I can't use any of your clips HU: they go to dead-end geocities sites. Problems with server maybe.
...And TiMN; it was you I was referring to lol. I didn't quite see the NMN one.
As for me (if anyone was wondering ;)) I've no way to record; and the only video camera my friends have has tapes by friend is always too busy to upload to his computer. :rolleyes:

As for NMN, it should work. Of course you'll need quicktime to view it and you'll have to have patience... It's 2MB so it will take a while, even if you're on broadband. Just go make yourself a sandwich or browse other parts of the forum while it downloads. However, if you still can't get it to work, I have converted the file into a much more dial-up friendly .5 MB in .wmv format. Hope you don't mind that I did that NMN... The quality is not nearly as good as the original, but it'll work.

No, that's not a dutch accent... You'll know a Dutch accent when you hear one.. It's as if the person has just learned to speak English... And if I speak English, like I do in my class, I am one of the only people speaking without an accent. Probably because I think, do and speak in English. I have given up on Dutch a long time ago. I'm not sure, but if you basicly speak English crappy, you have a Dutch accent. In the Netherlands, you either speak English perfectly, or you speak it horribly.

There is a reason why I gave up on Dutch, btw. I live in Limburg, which is a province that should have belonged to belgium. In any case, we speak with a soft g here, while in the rest of the Netherlands they pronounce a hard g. However, the Dutch language is supposed to be spoken with a soft g. Basicly, 11/12 of the Dutch population is unable to speak Dutch properly. Further, we have loads of commitees that degrade the language by always changing it, bringing it up to date. Although this might have a good side, it also renders literature before the changes unreadable. Even if the language was more logical before.

English is my passion now, and I regret that I am so far behind to people who live in English nations. My vocabulary leaves much to be desired, and my grammar is less than perfect, but I'm getting there. :)

Well actually FYM I'm rather mercurial in my language. The actual way I speak is very different from how I type. Yes, there actually is a Singaporean English or Singlish, which is a pretty coarse dialect, and I speak in it to varying degrees depending on who I speak to. If I ever record it well...lol....
But one thing's for sure, chinese is as tough to me as Dutch seems to HU. English-speakers; unite!!
