with the advent of the "Cell" processor which is still in the making, but nonetheless the chip works on the principle of several small processors linked together as one which helps it multitask much better
and since an AI basically works on the principle of several "thoughts" or tasks coming together to coellce as a single sentience on "intelligence"

First of all, Helios, I would like to request you use punctuation. Not as a Moderator, but just as a member. I think it would make your posts look a lot more intelligent, because they do have good content :).

Where do you base this on? The robot? I can program a robot to stroke my penis and scan my facial expressions to find the best position. This does not make AI. AI would mean I created a robot that would have PMS and told me to take out the garbage, and I would never get to the stroking.
Mere programming isn't AI...
Mr U
So that's the programming you do in your free time, HU?
There's absolutely no way in all of God's green goodness that we'll see AI similar to that of the Animatrix in the next 10-15 years. No way. Way, no. This cell processing sounds cool. For some reason it reminds me of this "atomic memory" I read about somewhere... Anyone know anything about that?
The A.I created so far is still not A.I.
It's still some sort of mimicking programming, though thought to be advance because it
relies on past experience(read: statistic data), and it perform some statistic analysis
(read: maths formulae) on it, and output something that convinces you it's clever.
Well, clever it is, but not the A.I, it's the programmer.
Since self-awareness, cognitive mechanisms are not possible to create(atleast for
now), scientists must have defined A.I as something that can mimick human
intelligence, but not necessarily has the awareness of it ownself, as human does.
So if you based on that definition, yes, those A.I techs are some A.Is
Creativity is programmable.
I think I mentioned this in another thread, but it wasn't the right place for it.
Are we only talking about AI here, or any intelligence?
What about the intelligence mentioned in Prey, the novel by Michael Crichton, the swarm intelligence?

hey talk more about that swarm intel pls
btw, creativity is indeed programmable, but believe me, it's still some sort of dynamic
statistic analysis. Well they perform analysis on data and then from there try to
mimick.
We need freewill, self-awareness, cognitive qualities. If you've that, you'll
automatically have creativity.
FYI, i'm a programmer also. My latest project is on creating self-awareness and
cognitive qualities. I might disappoint you, but they're more to commercial than to
really into the science of it, of creating digital organisms.
You'd have to read Prey, since I can't give you that good a description in here, but it's basically millions of tiny micro-bots, working together in a swarm. They solve problems much quicker, because they imitate the evolution of life, and when they reach the intelligent stage of life, they already know a ton of stuff. Simply put, it's much much quicker than AI could ever hope to be.
Don't quote me on this; like I said, you'd have to read Prey or just google swarm intelligence or something like that.

The robot from Japan still has a human handler that selects actions for it based on the input received. AI is far from being reached.
I think I'm turning Japanise.
ChalfantMT, please have a look at the PM I sent you regarding both posts you posted here.
... I like it when she gets bossy ;)
As for artaficial intelligence. Although the processor being spoken of is somewhat of a step foreward, I would suggest to you that there is a very long road ahead.
The amount of gigaflops a processor has to attain to even get close to that of a human or animal brain is far from being reached.
