I've been hearing speculation that there may be a constitutional amendment that will chnage the clause that the president must be born in the US. Has anyone else seen this, and if so what are your thoughts on Arnold running in 2008, to succeed are current President.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Please no! Nooooooooooooooooo!
I haven't heard a thing about that; where did you hear it?
I saw it last night as i was flipping through the channels, looked like a dateline commercial or something, thats why i wondered.
As a California resident I have this to say...NO!
the *proposed* ammendment would require a person to be a U.S. citizen for 20 years in order to qualify as president. yes arnold said something about it but he was just joking around.
I'm getting the feeling that people would oppose his becoming President but i haven't really heard reason... Given that you are a California resident do you have a specific perspective that I'm just not seeing?
Things haven't any "better" here since he took over for Davis. I know it's only been 100 days, and he has made some "progress," but really, he's only made "good" on two of his original four promises to the people. And, in my opinion, they are the two least important ones of the four.
He repealed Davis' car tax, which isn't a bad thing if you ask me. If people want to drive bad enough, we'll pay for it. There are so many cars in the state, billions in extra revenue would be generated, lending some much needed aid in this financial crisis. I'm not saying a 300% boost was right, but don't repeal it altogether, we need the money.
Also, he prevented California's driver's licenses from being issued to illegal immigrants. Sure, but there are more pressing matters that he has no yet completed.
He has not renegociated public employee contracts, but jobs have been cut at the state and county level. He has not passed an emergency jobs package that was supposed to reform workman's comp. He hasn't done anything with the education progra; originally Schwarzenegger said he wanted to consolidate the state's education funding programs. Even if this was a good idea, he still hasn't made good on it. He has proposed, instead of a 40% rate hike in the UC system in one year, 10% each year over the next four years, which would technically make the cost even higher at the end of the term. This after UC, CSU and community colleges raised tuition fees substantially last year, and now are raising them again this coming fall.
He has not passed an open-government constitutional amendment for the upcoming March 2004 election. He is currently promoting a bill to ban fund raising during the budget process, but will only stop his own fundraising only when other state leaders are required to do the same. I thought we needed a LEADER?
His budget cuts are incomplete. His proposed plan is largely reliant on fee hikes and borrowing. He did not call an immediate special session or hold a summit with legislators to streamline the government and amend the state constitution to control the budget. He hasn't trimmed the government, or broken down the budget line by line as promised. State finance director Donna Arduin only conducted a limited budget review, although the state is in what is called a financial crisis.
However, he did propose 2 billion in cuts in November, including a plan to eliminate services for the developmentally disabled. A week before Christmas, he collected millions from business groups at a fund-raised, even though he vowed not to take money from single-interest advocacy groups. A month after the fact, he calls the cuts for the developmentally disabled a "mistake" and gives funding to cities and counties with Legislature's approval, bringing up corcerns about the legality his giving the funds. Early last month he proposes a fiscal plan that is going to try and balance the budget by taking money from the cities and counties, who are already in loads of debt, raising higher education fees and cutting social programs. In late January, he was determined by the Superior Court to have violated state campaign finance rules by taking out a $4 million loan during the recall. There's more but I'm tried of typing...
Now I'm not some staunch Democrat or Davis-lover, and Davis wasn't doing the state a whole load of good before he was recalled, but it's definitely looking like things are going to get worse before they get better. He has done a few little things here and there, but out of his major promises, all he's done is repeal a few laws dealing with cars. Since then, not much visible progress has been made. I know that just because it isn't visible doesn't mean that it's not happening, but damn, none of the really important matters he's stressed thus far have been taken care of. Californians thought they were getting a man of action when they voted him in, but aren't getting their money's worth thus far. If they want him to be President in 2008, I'm sure people will find a way, but I'm not impressed.
Republican Senator Tom McClintock of Thousand Oaks, who lots to Schwarzenegger in the recall said, "This will be the first generation in California history to dump its problems in its kids' laps, and that breaks my heart." Danger boys and girls.

Wow, i really didn't have any idea, but those were all valid points. All i'll say is I will keep watching his progress, see how he continues to perform in office.
Yeah, I'm not going to not give him a chance, as he inherited a lot of problems and a tough situation. I don't think anyone could really "fix" things here in a short amount of time, but hopefully the future will bring better days.
Government is rarely one man, even in dictatorships the actual leaders are behind the scenes. Arnold is a tool of the Republican Party, nothing more, nothing less. All his speeches have been written by them, and everything he says is whispered in his ear by them.
The same thing will happen if he is in the White House.
Anyhow, was President ever about being smart? Isn't it all about looking good, and being charismatic?
Look at Kennedy, Reagan.. It's all about looking good for the ordinary house-wife. No one likes a critical president who wants to do good...
HU
which is why Kuchinich (sp?) will never get elected. damn.
PS- "Dennis P. Kuchinich, peoples mayor to the finich!"-Kuchinich's song when he ran for mayor of Cleveland and official best slogan ever!
