How about allowing signature pics?

Why not allow users to have sigpigs? I mean, I tried to put one in, but it just gave me a link to the pic, not the pic itself. Im asking this as a formal request.

Since it is not only possible to view this site in a non-graphical way (the archive) but also to remove signatures as an option in the USER CP, I must agree whole-heartedly with Haxxor, and I approve of the idea.

Also, I would like to introduce the idea of image-linking, not uploading. That way, it will no cost us space...

I know it has only been a few days since I posted this, but I was wondering if any of you could PM Neo about this, even though smith_fan already asked him a month ago. I have not forgotten about this issue. I actually enjoy sig pics or banners as well. But having them posted multiple times under every post by each user gets to be an eyesoar, along with eating twice as much bandwidth. I am working on installing a hack that will limit the sigs to show one per person, per page. It is a current script for VB, but it still has a few bugs, and I want to fix the bugs before turning it on, on the forums.

It's standard on the most forums so why should there be any difference here?

Well, there could be a limit on pixels to the maximum amount per signaure. Like, for example, as Jake Newman implemented on MatrixHardline and HobbitForum, 450x150 pixels maximum. However, this is just my own humble opinion.

I think what he's saying, is that if you posted say... 5 times on one thread and it would be 5 posts on that page, that your sig would only show up once. Then only once on the next page. Like that.

Well, that isnt really what I was speaking of when I suggested this. Im thinking that if we allow signature pics, that the usage of words in the signatures, is limited, or not allowed at all...just to save space.

so youre saying there could only be one or the other; Word Sigs or Picture sigs whichever we choose

sounds ok but I like the limited amount of words in a sig with pic a lot better, just having one or the other just sounds too limited

on most forums i whas on the max wide and lenght of a signature pic whas 200X300.

the idea of having pictures on your signature would be good. but to not slow the site down only allow your signature pic. to be seen 1 time in a tread. so if you post multiple times in 1 tread, the picture won't be in every post. just only your first one.

Having a picture in your signature is really cool, you can let it match your avatar(or let your avvy match your siggy), the forums will look a lot better with it. Every poster will have its own personality shown in the signature:)

And I agree that you can simply make it a max size.

well if it comes available. then we have to see if moving signature pics will be available.
hummmm but moving one's will make it slower again. just normal pics will be fine

What are these "sigpigs" you're referring to? As for pictures with signatures, doesn't matter to me one way or the other; if Neo or Valasher hand down that they are allowed, that's fine by me.

I think moving sig pictures would be great something else to make MM more unique than other forums, but they should have limit maybe half of the Kb's allowed for avatars

"sigpigs" are the [IMG ] [/IMG ] tags that you put around a picture Url for it to show the picture and not the link, its also how you could add multiple pictures in a post

well sigs are bigger then avatars, so mabey more. my avatar is 247kb.
so mabey a moving signature a limit of 300 or 400 kb.
but just none moving would be alright woudn't it. not all people here have fast computers.

Helios - I know what they are, but apparently I didn't make that blatantly obvious quite enough in my previous post.

Freddy - I agree with having non-animated signatures, I'm sure members could keep them well under 300KB if they were 200x300 or 150x350-450. Animated sigs would get up into the 1MB range, which is hell on people with dial-up connections.

I'm not sure I can agree on that. Here I have an animated sig (made it meself :D, and I am using it on this really cool site, and it really ain't that big. About 4 KB!)

Thats because its mainly composed of Text, text doesnt take up much space, even nonmoving pictures can sometimes have high Kb space take up, again with the avatars just about all of mine except for three can I only use on this site because they have so many Kb's (and most do hardly anything) so if you have moving sigs they would have to remain at least at the same level of Av's

Untrue. Text takes the same place as pictures, it's just the amount of pixels and the quality thereof the values. I was however able to reduce the size of the picture a lot due to the fact that it was only text because it was not an image, however if it was composed out of images, I could still have reduced it to that size withouth losing a lot of quality.

It's all about how much frames you put into it, in the banner I made, there are very little frames, I just put up the duration...

well another great thing about text too bad it can be done to pictures for some reason they are just big file even if they small pictures :D

i wish i could make avatars or signature pictures. but i don't have the programs for it. and i have no idea how to :p:(

Try Ulead Gif Animator, or Jasc Photoshop/AnimationShop. As to acquire them... Use your imagination :D
