what kind of music do you listen to

I personally will listen to just about anything though i have favorite bands (Coldplay , Incubus Linkin Park) i dont have a favorite type of music, I even like classical (sometimes) maybe because i used to play the violin back in 4th grade

I'm more into industrial a la nine inch nails but i like other stuff as well here is a small sampiling of the artists in my cd colection:

korn, stabbing westward, vast, rage against the machine, the smashing pumpkins, saliva, the crystal method, daft punk, linkin park, pink floyd, the beatles, nine inch nails, the birthday massacer(a burnt cd they are an unsingned band), and white zombie

i could continue but it would take up alot of room.

basically to sum it all up i like every music stile exept: country(anything with country in front of it a la country western), r&b, pop, and rap

Im fairly open about music, but i mostly listen to punk. I chose rock because punk wasn't there.

I think I mainly listen to Rock and Alternative music...

Radiohead, Coldplay, Manic Street Preachers, Travis, Incubus, Starsailor...that are some of my faves.

I only listen to classical music. I have never heard of any other forms of music, and I do not listen to them. This was very convenient when I voted for this poll....

I'm rather fond of everything (except for country- can't stand the stuff).

It mainly depends on my mood, but classical/instrumental, metal, techno, punk, and hip-hop are always welcome :D

I picked 70's. Boston, Yes, E.L.O., Kansas, Jethro Tull, Journey, and RUSH! The greatest bands ever have a lead male vocal with a high pitched voice and some synthesizers in the background, and all the musicians in the band are classically trained musicians. Now that's good stuff!

Okay, now for the new stuff, I like what I like, whether or not it's popular. I really like Bjork, Beck, The Strokes, The Vines, The White Stripes (although Jack is starting to sicken me, his music is good), Radiohead (I like how they just keep getting weirder and more alienated as they age like a fine wine), Starsailor, Weezer, Sublime, Outkast, and I think that's about it.

Yeah, man, I love Sublime's music. Haven't listened to anything put out by Long Beach Dub All-Stars, it just wouldn't be the same without the feeling that Brad poured into his music. However, I recently discovered Barrington Levy and The Ziggens, both of whom Brad took inspiration, lyrics, and entire songs from. I was listening to Jack Johnson at work this morning and watching the sun come up, good times. I like both his albums (that I know about) pretty well, very calming, reminds me of Hawai'i and the ocean.

yeah it is like that now, the "MTV 1" which is nothing but reality tv shows and commercials and then ther's MTV 2 which actually shows music!!, i also like that on MTV 2 they mostly play rock-metal and that such type of music.

but I agree with you HU i only like the earlier rap my favorite was probalt the Beastie Boys :D

I don't like Rap either but I wouldn't say that I "hate" it. I just don't like the type of music. Some lyrics are great though. But it shouldn't contain words like mother****er in every sentence ;)

my thoughts exactly....i never said i "hated" rap. people need to stop putting words in my mouth. i said i didnt like rap, mostly the stuff they play on the local rap station.
but the beastie boys and 311 are very good rappers and i enjoy their rapping.

I don't usually watch the music channels, because it reminds me of how dumb and blind of a 13 year old I was once, listening to everything these socialites in the offices of MTV told me to listen to. Now I choose what I like, but I don't listen to the radio (except when in the car like twice a month) or anything playing any of the new crap put out. But when I hear something I like, I buy the album. We just bought a DVD of Outkast (it was damn cheap too), and I love the psychadelicness in their music. I like some rap, but not much, and I think it's because I'm not smoking blunts, but if I were, I'm sure it would sound really really good.

Anyway, I have been combing through the music channels, the radio, through everything because I caught a song called "I believe in a thing called love" by The Darkness (I mentioned this in this thread this morning), and damn if it wasn't anywhere to be found. I listened to and watched so much crap just to be able to see their video three times this morning on three different music channels (I was so damn happy). So my point is, it's all crap. I heard AFI, Blink 182, Britney Spears, and the list goes on. I saw all of these new bands, or at least new songs by bands, and I hated every bit of it. I was thoroughly pissed when The Darkness went up against Blink 182 on some show where you vote for the next video and The Darkness lost and didn't get played. I hate the voting population, why in the world did they want to see a stupid Blink 182 video?! Anyway, soon enough I shall own The Darkness' CD, and then the DVD, and then I won't have to watch those pathetic music channels and all their crappy music. Fight the system, turn your TV to CNN, or Fox News, which is a bit more entertaining and the women look like porn stars (Laurie Due? What wouldn't you do?).

dont really know if they are exclusively german probaly so because i havent been able to find a site thats english (not that its a problem for me) I think its the same with Rammstein

I am very open when it comes to music. But I prefer, techno, rock, metal, hip hop, reggea, R&B, blues.......Ok, ok I like it all, lol.

How am I getting it all wrong? It is my opinion and is not inherently true or false. I know that everyone has opinions and to H-A-T-E something because you don't like, understand, or identify with it is dumb. I don't particulatly like all of metal I've heard, but I don't HATE it, it just isn't my thing. I didn't say that I even disliked it, it is something that I don't have a good understanding or establish a good connection with, but I appreciate that it is people expressing themselves through their music. I know there is much metal out there that I haven't given a listen to, which is why I'm not saying that it's bad music or ruling out that I might like metal more if I listened to more of it. To blatantly hate someone because of a minor misunderstanding is a very quick judgement of them as a person, and disrespects the work that they've put into what they've spent so much time in producing.

Like I've said, along with others, but apparently you don't understand or care to take that into account while posting your response, is that you get exposed to such a narrow spectrum of the genre that you shouldn't even make a judgement. Additionally, did any of the lyrics from rap and hip-hop songs that Ou Be Low hoo or myself have cursing? No. Just because you don't see/haven't seen any artistry in the music doesn't mean that it is not there to a great many people. I'm not trying to force you to change your opinion, but closing your mind doesn't do anything to promote your point of view. I understand that you will have your opinions, but introducing the word HATE will bring a backlash in a great many discussions. Even the rap about shooting people and selling drugs is an unfortunate reality that many people can relate to. Calling their way of life stupid is not only condescending and supremacist, but further shows a lack of understanding and compassion for others. This started as a thread about what type(s) of music people like, and you were the first one in it to use the word HATE, which spawned this whole thing. If your opinion is still to HATE, keep that to yourself, because the thread was going fine before you dropped the H-Bomb.

Yep...There's definitely a bit of Queen going on there, plus some pseudo-Bon Jovi-ism (I mean that in a good way!), add a little AC/DC and you've probably got the formula for The Darkness...although there's a special something extra too...It's like they know they are glam-rock and are proud of it, but in an ever so slightly ironic way...

And Justin Hawkins has messed up teeth like Freddy Mercury did, just my own little comparison. ;)

That's one of the reasons I love Weezer (well I love Pinkerton anyway), because they have brilliant guitar riffs and good sounds all around, but some of their lyrics are just so unserious ("I'm dumb she's a lesbian, I thought I had found the one. She was good as married in my mind, but married in my mind's no good...").

I LOVE RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE!!!!!! actually, i like anything that is on any of the matrix soundtracks...marylin manson....rob zombie....if fact i'm listening to marylin manson right now....i actually don't have too many CD's. i get most of my music from my friends cds which i upload on my computer, the matrix soundtracks, and iTunes music. i just got an iPod this week....one of those minis. anyone have one??

I like some punk like Sum 41 and The Offspring, but I prefer Rock so thats what I voted for, no I don't know who the other two that voted for punk, there are also a couple of those border line bands between metal and punk or metal/rock like Trapt and Papa Roach that are good too


no I dont have that Ipod thing, which one did you get anyway the "Small" or the "Mini" version, btw the mini version is the one that comes in a bunch of different colors the small version only comes in white, personally I dont really like iPod i would have gotten the 20GB iPod but 8 hours of battery life just isnt enough and besides it cost about $120 more than the 20GB Dell jukebox i got which has 20 hours of battery life even though its much bigger than the mini iPod, but i need something thats big and sturdy and wont break if i drop more than a couple of times (and I know i will :D)

i believe i did, but it was so long ago, i cant remember, but i dont know who the 4th person was. but thats was sorta only because of AFI, and NOFX, as i am starting to like progressive rock and old rock especially THE DARKNESS, yea!!!!! hardcore punk is not my thing, and ska was cool, whatever happened to good old ska, it sorta fell off the face of the earth, save less than jake.

Ou Be Low hoo, I got the album and I think "Love is only a Feeling" is the second most catchy song on the album. But the last two songs are like grand rock ballads. Listening to the whole album puts me in a time warp, and it's like I'm back in the eighties.

what exactly is ska? is that similar to punk

Ska is a lot like punk, but IMO is a little "happier" with its overall sound. It tends to use brass instruments, as well.
