2001 : A Space Odyssey

Helios

Has anyone else seen this movie, this is imo the greatest space movie a lot better than some other ones, definately better than all the star wars, its so long too just under 2 1/2 hours sometimes its just downright strange considering there isnt a lot of talking in the movie, thats one reason its good, its not chopped up by a bunch of bad dialogue for some reason though i have never seen the ending though i see about an hour and a half of it then something always happens where i have to stop and i forget to go back and rewatch itb the monolith is weird too that big floating black thing

Of course I've seen it, I've seen every Kubrick movie! I can't say that 2001 is my favorite, but it has a LOT of symbology behind it. I'm not going to go into it here, but do a search on the web and you'll find many interpretations of the underlying themes in the movie.

oh man the book by arthur c. clarke is even weirder. i had to read for book reporst and then i watched the movie and i was blown away. that movie was so weirder my face was distorted after i finished it.

HAL9000: im sorry dave, i cant let you do that

there is also a sequel called 2010: A Space Odyssey
roy schreider is in it and they go back to the floating monolith to find out what happened to the oringinal expedition that happened 9 years ago. i didnt see all of it, and it wasnt directed by stanly kubrick
Helios

I didnt know you could make a sequel to a movie like that, if it wasnt directed by stanly kubrick was it still close to as good as the first one
Jebulum

It certainly wasn't directed by kubrick nor wasn't good, especially because 2010 was trying to give answer to an amazing open ended story and nobody should have ever allowed to produce a sequel to the original movie (see where i'm going ?).

Anyway, it is probably one of my favorite movie from kubrick (just after a clockwork orange).

Btw, if you add 1 to any letter of the computer's name (Hal), you get IBM. Amazing, ain't it ?

Sorry, I can't let this one slip through! 'SYMBOLOGY'!?!??!?! I think the word you're looking for is 'SSSSSSSYMBOLISM'...Thanks in part to the Willem Defoe character in 'The Boondock Saints' for that one...has anyone seen it? Great movie...

2001 is obviously the work of a genius, but I find it hard to watch...The Shining, A Clockwork Orange or Dr Strangelove are better kubrick movies for me...

I can imagine Monkey Bush saying..."You can't fight in here, this is the WAR room..."

ahhh...BDS, one of my favorite movies. I was thinking the same thing when I read that.

SYMBOLISM...WHAT'S THE SSSSSSSYMBOLISM THERE!?!?

I looked up symbology in Merriam-Webster's and it gave me this:

Main Entry: sym·bol·o·gy
Pronunciation: sim-'bä-l&-jE
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural -gies
Etymology: symbol + -logy
1 : the art of expression by symbols
2 : the study or interpretation of symbols
3 : a system of symbols

so it could be correct usage depending on interp and context. Damn, I want to go watch BDS again now. "Put it back on, you look f*ckin' scary man!"

i'ts quite good

bit complicated for me though

i like it when hal goes mad and decides to destroy everyone

I thought i saw some computers with the IBM logo on them in the movie maybe im confusing it with another movie, so I guess i might watch 2010 just to see how bad it is lol
