If you could go bck in time would you change anything, ( for reasons other than yourself) what would you change
risky buissness this is i dont think i could trust myself with a time machine, just think of the consequenses the farther you go back the more effect it will have, you could end up wiping out the human race all together wait thats a little to far back...
it might be fun even to "toy" with time, such things like i might go back and kill Hitler before he grows up,WW2 might never have happened people that should have died in the war keep living, or go even a little farther back and prevent the killing of julius caesar, mybe even somehow prevent the "dark ages" thats roughly 800 years where there was no technological advance
and id like to see what really happened at the Tunguska explosion, it was supposedly a meteor but several explosions were seen.., then after all the past time travel i would go to the 'future' maybe take some ultrafast computer or a flying car lol and bring it back to our time, thats if the future exist though, same with the past, maybe its like the one movie
"The Time Machine" where he finds out that the past cant be changed it will happen one way or another, and then he goes to the future and we blow up the moon sending us back to a prehistoric like state

think of the consequences! we would not be as we are today, countrys would not be what they are, we would have nothing to add to history. my god, i would never do such as things as that. things have happened for the better of the world.
i wouldnt change the past for anything, the future now thats a different story...
well if everything goes horribly wrong you can still go back to stop yourself from changing anything unless the ripples of time catch up and erase you from history altogether
with the ww2 thing, if you do you might stop yourself from being born or somthing .
time was never ment to be tampered with, like 1 of millions said u might end up not being born if u try ot change the past.
wat if world war 2 had of been been prevented, would something worse happen, rite now we could be in the middle of world war 3 or worse in the middle of a nuclea war.
u might end up preventing space travel hows no's i say if we dont no the future dont meddle in it.
Definitely, history should be left as it is. Bad as WW2 was, if it wasn't it, my grandpa wouldn't have migrated from Holland to Asia, he wouldn't meet my grandma, my mum wouldn't be born and I wouldn't be born. Then again, I might be born to a different person, but that's a different topic entirely. The point is, time should be left just as it is.
unfortunaterly i do not feel that way, like i said i dont think i would trust myself with a time machine, because i would DEFINATELY use it no matter the consequences
Things such as this with so much power, it is wise to keep them far away from an evil genius like myself, time would become like a set of Legos, i would build it as i please
though if i were somehow immune to the time ripple i could always go back and change them back to the way they were supposed to be
I think that time travel would change the history. It would create only new, another branch of history for time traveler.
if ww2 didnt happen for all you know a person might not meet somone else and it would end up that there is no wb might not be made or wrose no morden itams pirod .

I am sorry but I have made a little (but significant) mistake. It should be:

for all we no WW2 still could've happend. we havent been back in time so we can not say what could've or would've happend if hitler hadn't of been as bad as he was. we can only say that this happend and that it happend for a reson, WW2 might of prevented a WW3 happening. And if a WW3 had happend then we might not have the technology we have today but then again we might.
Stop WW2? Why do that. Instead, I would make Hitler trust me so much, that he would not attack Russia (he did that because he was going to die soon...).
And I would arise as the Leader of the World, and crush the Illuminatus Churchil. And dominate all life! <insert evil laugh here>
Than I would gather all the donuts from across the world and eat them all. All by myself! <insert a more evil laugh here>
It is amusing to add that the Great Eye, was found on the Eagle's Nest (Hitler's bunker). However this is impossible as the Illuminati do not exist ;)

there are wy too many paradoxes concerning time travel.
like in back to the future when marty prevents his parents from meeting, he starts to disappear, along with his siblings.
then in time machine, the movie, he tries to go back in time and save his girlfriend. she is supposed to die, even if he tries to keep her from danger, she will keep dying in different ways always at the same time
i would have to go back time into cavemen becuase do you know that cavemen had the same sized brain as us! so i would tutor them so then rite now we would be so advanced.
Yeah, or you could just travel 30.000 year into the future...
The only thing you will enhance is the urge to kill each other.. If you tutor them anything, teach them to love each other.
I don't think you would last long, though. They would probably think of you as an aggressor and beat the **** out of you with their clubs.
And those cavemen are very strong.
No, I suggest going to 0 BC, kill Christ and assume his place. I would love to be a religious leader, to be worshipped for thousands of years by millions...

definitely kill Hitler before he even is old enough to know what "politics" means...

Y'know, I was reading this article in "Einstein's Universe" in my school library before class started. Quite an interesting read. Here's a mind boggling fact. Ok, if a ball went through a wormhole in space to a past time, it would come back at the exact same spot it was transported, both in the future and the past. But if the ball were to go back to the past as well, wouldn't it impact the original ball from the past? Ergo, the ball would just veer itself off course from the wormhole. However if the ball never went through the wormhole, how could it have been stopped? hmm... interesting eh.
Here's another, they say that if you see yourself in the past and someone kills your past self, what happens to you? Do you receive the same impact that your previous self experienced? But imagine this, say that your younger slef was weaker than your present self. That would mean that you appeared out of nowhere because you have no background. lol. Weird shit huh?
Anyways, it's impossible to go back to kill Hitler like Smith_Fan said because it is hypothesized that a time machine could only transport you back to the time that the original transport machine was made. weird huh?
There are many different hypotheses. If time travel is possible (we cannot tel that it is impossible, in fact it appears to be possible but as we all well know - "appearances can be deceiving" :) ) it shouldn't change OUR history. It would only create new (else) histories for those who travels through time. So it is possible to kill Hitler before he was born. But we won't notice that, only the people living at that point of time. My point is that we actually could notice many time travelers that appeared in our time path - ghosts, aliens etc. We will know that time travel is possible either when we develop such a (devil's :) ) machine or some time traveler appears right before us. At the very moment our time path will split in two independent ones. The one with us and the traveler, and the second with the history of this traveler, a history o time machine development.

sounds like a weird "Outer Limits" Episode.... :D
i think i would go back in time and kill whoever made the time machine, because even though if you killed hitler or stalin or something like that, other horribel things might happen, a nuclear war may blow everythign to peices, so i don thtink a time machine would be a good idea.
by the way, shouldn't this post be in the lounge?

Please read few previous posts then answer ;). As I said time machine shouldn't change our history. :)

Seeing as this relates to science fiction/possible future reality, i think this thread is at home in this forum.
a more practical time machine which could only travel forward in time would be, a spaceship that can travel at very close to the speed of light, because time slows down the faster you go (called time dialation
its been proven by a couple of test with the SR71 jet (fastest jet in the world) where two clocks one in the jet and one on the ground the clock in the jet was .0086 behind the one on the ground, this isnt much but at much higher speed such as those close to light speed the difference would be in years
suppose you were to travel to the nearest star (not the sun) Proxima Centauri 4 light years away, this would be 4 years ship time but 28 years would have passed in the rest of the universe
1 year ship time = 7 years regular time
the only problem is that to achieve these kinds of speeds to gain "time dialation" you would have to leave the earth, either that or it would take a vast amount of energy, but once again you couldnt get that kind of energy on earth.
this is not much of a sloution to time travel though because its a one way trip once you are in the future you cant get back
If you travel at or faster than the speed of light, dont you technically stop time for yourself , while others still age?
I think time travel has something to do with gravity. www.johntitor.com is an interesting site
Also, maybe if you do go back in time and change something, you create a new "timeline" for yourself. Thus making a new dimension for yourself. If you go back to your origin point, it will be an altered dimension for yourself. Yet your original timeline stays intact without you.
no time doesnt "stop" for you but it comes close to it, Time dialation is very weird and somewhat confusing to explain, time from your veiw point goes on as normal, while the rest of the universe is at a fast-forward like state, time in the veiw point of the rest of the universe goes on as normal but they see you as not have even experienced a second
its almost like when you approach those kind of speeds you are on another plane of time alltogether
so its like no matter what you do in the altered past timeline your original one stays intact, thus you dont simply "pop" from existence because you changed something like preventing your mother and father from meeting
In that case "toying" with time could be very interesting you could somehow prevent the dinosaur extinction and see how the world would have evolved without humans, I couldnt think of a better thing to have fun with because the possibilities are litterally Infinite, I think that if i could live forever i could never be bored with that
If I could go back in time, I'd warn my granmother not to go on a holiday to Buckarest.
View Full Version : If you could go back in time..
